*This is a Contest Entry: Please Vote if you think this design is worthy to win a 3D Printer (Makerbot Replicator 2), I will be Truly Grateful, Thanks*

This is my 3rd entry after the 'TriStand QR 3D Printed iPhone Case' (an iPhone case with Build In Stands and a personalised QR Coded Business Card!)  and the 'Rubber Blaster iPhone 5 Case' (Rubber Band Gun in an iPhone 5 Case!)

What is it?
This is a home 3D printer friendly rubber band gun with a secret prank mode!
In the normal mode, this gun can be used to shoot elastic bands at a target or even better, a workmate.
When a secret switch is switched however, this gun enters Prank Mode!
Once in Prank Mode, hand to a friend or workmate, as they pull the trigger aiming for you, the prank mode mechanism inside means they end up shooting themselves!
This Rubber Band Gun has been deigned with 3D Printing in mind and the attached files (attached as a .zip) can be 3D Printed using most home 3D Printers in 1 print by printing the 8 pieces which are then easily assembled together (watch the video to see how to do this)

As I don't own a home 3D Printer (hence the competition entry) I have not tested how well this works. If anyone prints it, please post pictures in the comments as I will be very interested with the results.

My Background
I got into 3d printing the second I first read about it and have been hooked since. It's amazing how anything you can think up can then be turned into a physical object and how anyone can be a designer as I have demonstrated here. I teach myself how to use CAD (Computer Aided Design) program's by constantly improving techniques through trial and error. Everything I design, I design with the hope of 3d printing it.

I am currently using Shapeways (a 3d printing bureau service that after uploading your design, mail you the prints within 2-3 weeks) based in the Netherlands for these prototypes and am currently using the little profit from selling other designs on the site to create and print prototypes of new versions and designs. It takes weeks at a time for them to arrive and costs a lot more than home fabrication units (3d printers) can print due to the low cost of ABS / PLA filament, it would be so useful for me to expand my designs and hold them in my hand within hours, not weeks; also let's face it, who wouldn't want a 3D Printer, It would also be incredibally awesome to own one of these incredible machines however I don't have the spare cash (so please vote for this design to win, thanks). Check out My Shapeways Shop which contains more items I have designed (such as my latest idea which has yet to be printed: "Rubber Blaster iPhone 5 Case" a rubber band gun in an iPhone case! I have also modelled a rubber band gun with a prank mode (the shooter ends up shooting himself if a hidden switch is switched!)) Lastly, showing my passion for 3D Printing, I am a former Winner of the Gizmodo UK 3D Printing Challenge after designing a moving gymnast performing a backflip! (There is a video on the page)
In conclusion, I am sure that this MakerBot Replicator 2 won't be wasted on me and will be used a lot!

I like this, did you design the mechanism yourself?

Thanks, yes I did indeed design the mechanism myself.

here , I will give you a subjection you should use a railing and a mechanical train( not a big train what I mean by a train is the object that moves on the rail I am a inventor so I have to deal with mechanical features a lot of the time) , the other thing is a device to hold it secure, now I am not going try to spoil the creativity(that's the most advise I will give you for now, besides if you figure it out you get more credit for your own ideas and I am a honest young man so I will be doing what I can without dominating the idea ,if you can't figure it out do some more research and experiment, because creativity and science is a huge social value to me
GREAT job, would love to see it printed...
Here is mine, made out of wood.

Hey, if you hadn't noticed there's a contest going on right now that I think you have a pretty good shot at winning. you should enter with this.
Maundy (author)  hats99941 year ago
Unfortunately I published this instructable before the contest was announced so I am unable to enter it :( I'm glad that you like it though

Hand it to you work mate and watch him lose one eye... :)
Maundy (author)  serhiyiv2 years ago
Yere, the lack of safety probably contributed to the reason this entry did not win...

You would need to add springs to the pegs that hold the rubber band, because otherwise it might be difficult to get them back into the correct orientation for reloading.

Yes, thanks this may be necessary, if I get a chance to print it out (by winning the contest) I wil try that.
