It CAN happen, but you got it wrong, nothing can lay eggs in your brain.... rather, you ingest the worm's egg and for some reason it goes into yor bloodstream. If the egg remains in the intestine you develop a an intestinal tyract infection. If the egg lands in an inhospitable tissue, like skeletal muscle or a viscera, the egg develops into the worm's HEAD. The head can't grow because the surrounding tissue is not favorable, so it envelops itself in a thin layer of tissue and remains dormant indeffinitely....

that's called cysticercosis, and it's rare, with an estimated 40 cases per year in the US. FDA regulations state that undercooked or raw fish must be frozen for 24 hours before serving toi kill all parasites. It's actually a lot easier to get cysticercosis from pigs and cows than fish...

And most cases go undetected, they only give symptoms when the cysticercum clogs a duct inside the brain and cerebrospinal fluid builds up.

Pleasem don't get carried away with urban legends!

Thanx! XD You shouldn't worry about parasites so much. The FDA stipulates that all sushi-grade fish must remain frozen solid for 24 hours before being sold to kill all parasites. There are fewer than 40 cases a year in the USA, and they're mostly recreational fishermen. I worked at a sushi restaurant for a year while in med school. I've also uploaded a sushi instructable in case you're interested
