If you don't know what to do with that old wine box you have lying around your house, you can turn it into a jewelry box for yourself or to give it to someone else as a gift. Here's how I did it:

Step 1: Here's What You'll Need:

a wine box

scissors

glue

sander and/or sand paper

bag

pencil

metallic pen

hotfix stones and applicator

tweezers

hook screws

paint brush

varnish

EVA foam

Step 2: Remove Unnecesary Parts

Remove the parts that you won't need and prepare the box for sanding.

Step 3: Sanding

Sand the box to a smooth finish. This will prepare it for painting.

Step 4: Varnishing

Varnish the outside and the inside of the box. Use the bag to protect the surface you are working on. Let dry according to the specifications of the manufacturer. I used a varnish with dye to make the box darker.

Step 5: Add Hooks

Draw a straight line to use as a guide for the hook screws. Measure the spacing with a ruler. This kind of wood is soft enough to drive the screws in by hand. If the wood you are using is hard or the screws thicker, you may need to make some pilot holes.

Step 6: Choose or Create a Design

Download a design or create one yourself and transfer it to the lid. I created one and then I transferred it by drawing it over and pressing the pencil hard. You can also draw it directly on the lid.

Step 7: Apply Your Design

In my case I used a metallic pen that leaves a raised finished. I then applied the small hotfix rhinestones with the applicator and the big ones with glue. Most types of glue will do.

Step 8: Closing the Box

Since I wanted the lid to open downwards, so I could use the string of the handle to hang something, I had to put some "brakes" to keep it from falling. To do so I cut a couple of strips of EVA foam and glued them in the slots where the lid slides. It took some trial and error to get to the point where it was tight enough for it to stay in place and loose enough to slide it effortlessly.

Step 9: Hanging the Box

There are many ways you can hang the box on the wall. Since I already had a screw sticking out the wall, I measured the center point in the back of the box and put a wall mount.

All that's left to do is filling it with your favourite jewelry!
