Introduction: Online Banking: How to Set It Up

Welcome to the 21st century! Glad you decided to catch up with the hipsters and look into online banking. Here's the low down on how to navigate the whole ordeal. And no, you do NOT have to leave your house or call a robot to do it. (most of the time)

Please note: a lot of my instructables are for a class I'm taking at the high school level. Therefore; do not head my words as if they are the holy grail. This might just give you a place to start.

Step 1: Step 1: Find You Banks Online Banking Tab

A quick navigation tip is to type *your banks name* + online banking into google and hit search. Most often than not, it will directly link you to the correct page.

Step 2: Step 2: Follow Their Directions

When you reach their online banking webpage, there should be instructions on how to set up or where to go to set up your online account.

Step 3: Step 3: Click the Login/Sign-Up Button & Sign Up

Click this button and begin registration. You'll need your...

-account number

-social security number

-date of birth

(at least for most online banking accounts)

You'll also be asked to create a...

- username

- password

- security question/picture

Step 4: Step 4: Check Out the Features!

For a lot of banks, you can pay bills, write check, or just check out your recent withdrawals and deposits into your account. There's also much more to discover.

Step 5: Step 5: Security

Although your bank takes many measures to secure your account, don't be stupid and make your password 1234567 (it probably won't even let you). For maximum security, use...

- A variety of characters (@tK5502Ri!) to create a password and/or username

-Don't use the same password and usernames you use on social media.

(This is a special account, and it should have its own stuff. If have too many things to keep track of, write it down, and stow it with your social security number in a safe spot.)

-Do, check and make sure the web address is spelled right and that it's secured with https at the front

-IF YOU DON'T FEEL SAFE, don't do it. Seek help from your local bank location to set it up correctly.

-FINALLY, I realize there are lot of other things to consider when deeming a website safe. Feel free to investigate more into the subject before you go diving into online banking. Also remember to use common sense like anything you do in public increases risk of exposure.

Stay safe out there!
