video Hooked on Science - Oobleck
Using a few ingredients from the kitchen you can create oobleck. Oobleck is considered a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it can exhibit properties of both a solid and a liquid.

Is this stuff also called a 'suspension'? I am probably wrong but I swear I remember a Mr. Wizard episode where he made this stuff and that's what he called it. But that was also many moons ago.

I thought it was called a colloid.

It's a suspension in that is seperates out, water and the cornstarch, if you let it sit long enough. However, this would be refered to as a non-newtonian fluid because when the liquid is agitated, the whole of it solidifies until the agitation stops.

I suggest mixing the corn starch with the water a little more to give it a better comparison in the switching from liquid to solid state. roughly a mix of 2 water : 1 cornstarch is good for this.

I don't think the mixture was mixed well enough, there were still white chunky parts.

And I think the kid could have handled a little more than was given to him:
"I need your help here, add as much as you want" *while holding the box* "we can always add more later" *takes box away*

I asked a question on the cereal video, I'd be interested in a response? L
