Introduction: Organize Your Allen Wrenches.

Picture of Organize Your Allen Wrenches.

Are your Allen wrenches sadly laying around your work area? You can keep them together and organized using a 35mm film canister, easily obtainable if you've ever had pictures developed using a throw away camera.

Please keep in mind, This is a way to ORGANIZE your allen wrenches. In no way does this need to be stable, simply because there is no reason for it to be freestanding. It just keeps the allen wrenches in order and together.

Step 1: The Only Step.

Picture of The Only Step.

This is all pretty simple so I'll do it all in one step.

Get your 35mm film canister. You've probably seen one, but if you don't know what it is, they are the small grey tubes with the black caps that hold film for disposable cameras.

Take any sharp object, maybe a pen, letter opener, screwdriver, drill with tiny bit, knife, Etc. Etc. and poke a small hole into the lid of the canister. Start the first hole somewhere near the side, and make holes in a circle around the lid. It's better explained by the picture.

After you've made the holes, take whichever size Allen wrench you're going to use for that hole and push it through. It should be slightly larger than the hole you made so it fits snug.

Do this for the other wrenches and you're done!!

i always just got small zip pouches for em and marked the pouch metric or standard
the best score i remember was going tho the recycling center to buy some metal to weld on and was shocked to see a full 2X4X3 bin full to the top with hex keys of assorted sizes

got a 12lb bag for 12$ best allen wrench score ever

Nice idea. You could put a weight in it to stabalize it. May I nicely suggest on writing an instructable to remove rust from your allen wrenches.

Ok, Ok, I know they're rusty lol. But they haven't gotten much use since '92 when my dad worked on A-10 fighter jets for the air force. So since then they haven't been used enough to wear it off. I think I'll keep them rusty for centimental value. :)

A-10 Thunderbolt 2's (Warthogs) are ground support attack planes not fighters.

If you value sentiment as you say you do then I think you should know these things.

I cropped my Allen key holder out of a larger picture so you might have a look at it:

It is just a block of wood with holes in it. Though I did write the sizes onto the wood. I like your site name and associated image. Good stuff!

oh... i misread it, i thought it said how to organise your alien wrenches, kinda dissapointed now, your instructable was ok though :)

lol!!

Not bad! It looks o.k. but I would wet those with WD40. You're going to get a lot of problems with the fit if that rust keeps up.

Kiteman (author)2008-02-11

Nice idea, but is it very stable? I can see the whole thing going over quite easily if you take one or two keys out.

You could add this to the 35mm Group, though.

And they are so rusty!

Gunk on Floor (author)Kiteman2008-02-11

It's really more of a way to keep them all together, but I tested your theory by pulling out all but the biggest wrench and it stood standing.

i agree with kiteman. i think my dad has this key ring that has a bunch of allen wrenches on it. haha good idea!
