Introduction: Origami Heart

About: An open book, filled with blank pages.

This is how I make origami hearts. I haven't seen anyone else do it this way.

I learned this by accident last year while playing with some bus tickets (that happen to be connected squares, with perforations in a X through each...)

Thought I'd put this up, coincidentally near valentines day.

You will need one piece of paper that is twice as long as it is wide. (If you have a square, cut it in half.)

Step 1: Fold Paper in Half

Fold the paper in half, so that the open end is up.

Step 2: Fold in Half Diagonally

Fold in half diagonally, using both layers.
Crease and unfold.

Step 3: Do the Same to the Other Side

Fold in half diagonally from the other direction, taking both flaps.
Crease and unfold.

Step 4: Fold in Half

Fold in half horizontally
Crease and unfold

Step 5: Fold Down Top Flap

Fold down the top flap. Leave it.

I folded down about a quarter of my square (and 1/8th of the total height), but you will have to fidget with this to find what you like.

Step 6: Fold in Corners

You now need to fold these little corners in towards you. Just follow the creases already there.

Step 7: Flip Over and Repeat 5&6*6

Flip the work over, and repeat steps five and six.
Fold down the top flap an equal amount as the other flap, then fold in the corners.

Step 8: Peel, Valley and Mountain Fold

Okay, this is the hardest step to explain, but easy to do when you get it.

You are folding the front side towards you, making valley folds along the upside down Y shape, and a mountain fold along the vertical line (excluding the top folded down flap.)

The back side is folded with that mountain fold (a valley fold when seen from behind).

Step 9: Flatten, Fold in Half

Flatten, and you can see the heart shape forming.

Fold the heart in half horizontally

Step 10: Fold Down Tips

Fold the tips down towards you. This again takes some fidgeting to see how far you want to fold down.
You can do these together or one on each side. If you do them together one may be uneven.

Crease and unfold.
Optionally you can fold them first one way, then the other to make the crease more reversible.

Open heart back to previous step.

Step 11: Inside Reverse Fold Tips

You are now pushing the tips down inside the heart.

One side at a time, open the side of the heart and push the tip down, reversing the tip's folds.
Do the same to the other side.

Step 12: Finished.

The heart is now done.
It could be glued to a paper clip, as the bottom opens a bit.

Good luck, I hope you make a lot!
