Step 1: Measure and Clean the Mounting Surface
The first step in your above cabinet lighting project is to measure the space that you would like to illuminate. You want to measure not only the length that you want to illuminate but also the upward distance that you would like to light, this will help our sales team at EcolocityLED.com better assist you in receiving the best possible LED lighting solution for your project.
After you have purchased your LED Modules or LED Strip Lights from EcolocityLED.com you can now begin your lighting installation. First off you want to clean your mounting surface so the double sided VHB tape will adhere for the lifetime of the product. Use rubbing alcohol to clean your surface and allow plenty of time to dry. If you do not have a clean smooth surface to mount to you can always mount the modules using screws or the strip lights using mounting clips or Aluminum Extrusions.
Step 2: Mount Your LED Module or LED Strip Lights
Now that you have cleaned your mounting surface you can simply peel off the cover of the VHB double sided tape and stick your LED Modules or LED Strip Lights to your mounting surface. Be sure to press firmly to be certain the tape is sticking to the surface.
Step 3: Install 12VDC LED Power Supply
Now that you have your LED Modules or LED Strip Lights installed you can now install your Low Voltage LED Transformer / Power Supply. Most all LED Modules or LED Strip Lights power by low DC Voltage, in this case we are using a 12VDC Power Supply with 120VAC input. If you do not have any experience working with high voltage electricity hire an electrician to install your power supply, never install a power supply when input ac power is live. Hook your 120VAC input to your power supply and 12VDC output to your LED Modules or LED Strip Lights. Never leave bare wire connections, always use wire connectors or solder and heat shrink.
Step 4: Turn on Power and Test Your Connection
Once your LED Transformer is properly installed you can now apply power to the unit and test your LED Lights. If your lights come on you know you have done everything properly, if your lights do not come on you have a bad connection or have the polarity of your wires wrong. If you need assistance troubleshooting an LED connection view our Voltage Multimeter Troubleshooting Guide or hire a professional to install.
Step 5:
Once your LED Lights are working you can clean up your work space and add appealing accessories to your newly lit above cabinet space. As you can see the final result adds a new whole new perspective to this kitchen that will last a lifetime.
