Great instructable; Nice n' clear and easy to understand; .... and not for nothin' because it could be that I'm in my 40's and have glaucoma, but I do not mind the capital letters at all; much easier to read that way, ..... these instructables are pretty much instruction manuals and blueprints on how to build something.... not an an early 90's era chat room; so I'm not 100% sure that old AOL chat rules apply to instruction manuals. not to mention blueprints tend to be in all caps most of the time, so the caps-lock being on works fine for me. ..... just sayin' . either way, this is a good instructable. I dig it with or without caps.

very nice but u could do 1 thing if u didnt scure the solar pannel very good put 1 more support on it and make a water proof comtain for eletrical stuff

It's doing more than just prevent the power floating back. For that a diode would be enough. It also controlls the charging voltage etc. That enhences the lifespan of the battery.

Speaking as one who's vision has deteriorated past the length of my arm....I DON'T MIND CAPS AT ALL. I can see them (and bold print) much better. Great instructable, very complete, and I particularly liked the idea of putting it on a cart. Very nicely done and with lots of thought to cheap parts. Not to harp on about it, but seriously, dude: say no to all caps. My ears hurt from reading, and that's a hard feat to accomplish.

what are the limitations on this? exactly how much power can you get out of this continually and in peaks?
how many devises can this operate? how many batteries can you charge with this to provide power continually at night or without light?
how many of these will it take to meet the power needs of the average home? I'm just curious to know this info so as to consider all possibilities for application.

There are many variables that will greatly affect the operation of a solar system, that would include panel wattage, battery, voltage regulators and power converters.    Sunny or cloudy days...power consumption...three ways you can for sure have constant power without failure are:  HYDRO, WIND, and SOLAR.

If you are lucky enough to be around all three feeding that constant energy into a home with one or more....then you are golden.

There are many good systems out there.  It all depends what applications you want to use them for....    I changed my account to cid2323 due to the fact I forgot my original......SORRY

Why did you attach the solar panel to a cart that can not be used outside in harsh weather or moved on anything other than a flat surface? Also, why in the name of god did you use all-caps?, they make you seem far less credible.

How did you get the parts from the army?

currently in the army...you can get stuff from army surplus stores, you just have to look if not try the army DRMO I think there is one in texarcana TX...look it up on the net.....I dont have the DRMO web site to give, just type it in the search engine

I second all the other sentiments here as it relates to the project. Great instructalbe. I built a smaller scale and now I have this to help me build a larger one.

As for the caps issue, it's just a clash of the cultures that the Internet is (has been) forcing us as human beings to deal with. Some will adapt to new etiquette in the online culture and others won't. There's no "etiquette" police that I'm aware of...yet.

A lead acid battery is the opposite of "lead free and acid free" as mentioned in the intro.  I was intrigued to see what type of battery was used and dissapointed to see a lead acid battery when you had promissed the opposite.
