Step 4: SET UP EQUIPMENT

Projector:
Placing the projector on the roof avoids getting a lot of shadows from pedestrians and automobile traffic. If a slightly more clandestine setup is what you are after place the projector on a box inside the car so it points out the window. Run the VGA and power cable from the projector in through the window.

Inverter:
Place the inverter on the dashboard on the same side as the car battery. Snake the cables through the crack between the door and the car (not through the window). This will avoid ripping it off the dashboard when you inevitably forget about it and swing the door open. If its your car and you are hardcore, get a drill and make a hole under your dashboard to run your cables directly to the car battery

Secondary Inverter (optional):
Plug this into your cigarette lighter.

I have a VW Westfalia Camper, and I had a great idea. Rather than have the projector on the roof, a more clandestine way would be to to use a Westy. By placing the projector on top of the sink/stove cover, you could project straight out of a window and no one would know where it is coming from. Plus, being a camper, you could travel with the "projector bomb" and have a place to sleep and cook your meals. Westys will also allow you to camp in parking lots while "normal people" think its just a parked van. Perfect for guerilla advertising or campaigning. I get no profit from thesamba.com, to VW, however, I recommend that this camper be considered for this project. You can search for more info on the Westfalia through thesamba.com or by googling VW westfalia. I think that this idea of "projector bombing" is awesome, and I plan to use it. I suppose that ANY flat-side van with sliding side windows would work as well with proper projector mounting. Other van owners, please let us know.

Tis true... however, if you were going for clandestine, having a giant cone of light pointing to the source of the image would be a little conspicuous. If you really wanted to, you could point it out the back window of a normal car and still have it easily movable, self-contained.

It would be an interesting and nonviolent way to make a public demonstration, especially at night.  My only fear would be that someone would use it to project something really objectionable (gross) to make their point.  Then again, it loses its shock value when seen all the time.
