Hey!
Thanks!
Whats an aiming notch? The little things on the string or something on the actual bow?
On this one, there is no type of aiming mechanism, as it was intended to just shoot from the hand, and not for anything but some fun in my backyard...
If you have any other questions, please let me know!
Thanks!

feralin, there are different kinds of "real bows". Only in the newer bows do they have an arrow rest. In almost all old bows they were self arrowed and yeah, you rest em on your hand. This style is my favorite actually because you can hand the bow to anyone (bc im a lefty) and they can shoot it if they're a righty. But yeah, its good to know a bit of history before you bash someone. You are right though, in newer style bows, there is an arrow rest. But if you'll notice, these are lotr styled bows. Old bows. Great instructable man, i intend to make one. Thanks again X3

Hey man, finally got my hands on a length of good pipe. Mine was CPVC its a little more resilient to bending and it shoots great! I used the orange twine they used on my Xmas tree X3 what you can do to make a good string from twine like that is get a length twice that of what your string will be and then fold it in two around a pole or something (i used a desk leg) so its the length it will be. twist one end clock wise, twist the other counter-clockwise. Then when both ends are tightly twisted, twist the two together clockwise. Tie the ends into bowlines and attach it to your bow :3 it works great. I tried using a single strand twine and it unraveled in a few hours of shooting. this one's lasted me all week. :3 Thank you!

what do you put the arrows on? your hand? in real bows there is a little place cut horizontaly out of bows to put the arrow in when you are pulling back the bow

well...i just use my hand to shoot off of, if thats what you mean...if you want, you could find something to stick out a bit so you can shoot off of it, but i just wear a glove... hope that helped =)

weeeelllll, if you wanna make an arrow, just go to your local walmart or home depot and pick yourself up a dowel... use duct tape and whatever you want for the feather thingies... carve a notch in the end and sharpen up the point or attach an arrowhead or something and VOILA! maybe ill make an instructable sometime.. just have fun with it... oh yeah, are you likin it?

Im a noob bowyer, and I know that this is more of toy than a serious weapon, but it is a real weapon and some times you have to make do with what is available. In the interest of the art/science of bowyer can you provide a draw weight? Here is how to do it. Draw the bow back as far as you would to shoot and have someone measure the distance from the bow to where you are holding the string. It will probably be between 15-30". Then get a heafty stick with a notch on one end (you can tape), that is longer than that distance. Mark that distance on the stick from the notch. Put the string in the notch (or tape it) and put in on a bathroom scale with the notch on top and note the weight- maybe 1-5 lbs. Then pull the bow down to where you have marked and note the weight. It might be anywhere from 10-50+ lbs. Id guess about 15 lbs. Be careful the stick does not slip with you do this. This is one way bows are measures, for example I have a bow that is 35 lbs at 20 inches. Id like to know about what 5'10"x1" pvc pulls. Also, how far will it shoot? It get an idea of how efficient the bow is you need to measure the arrow weight, but unless you have a postage scale, or something that can measure grains, grams or fractions of an ounce, you cant be accurate, and distance is a good indicator. Thanks. I look forward to seeing the stats. Oh, yeah. Glad to know about the tape. I have duct tape around my fiberglass x-bow prod as that stuff can shatter too, though it is regularly used for bows.

I use a PVC bow for measuring arrows prior to cutting. They have a draw weight of about 8 pounds.

I wish I could figure out how to weigh that from this. you ought to write an instructable just for that, with some pictures

I'd be mighty careful not to over-bend a PVC pipe, since they are known for sending sharp pieces of plastic flying across the room when they break.

says:
if your concerned about shards of PVC flying about, try wrapping the whole (or most) of the bow with electrical tape, or other similar tape, and if it does shatter, the tape should stop bits flying about, kinda like putting tape on windows during hurricanes, cyclones etc.

I second this comment...I'd avoid using PVC for a bow...I feel this Instructable is going to end up hurting someone eventually....
