PVC guitar amplifier stand

PVC guitar amplifier stand
Hey guitarists, since our ears are way up in our heads and not on our knees, its better if floor amps projected our music upwards.

Here's a cheap way to make a tilted stand for your guitar amps.

The measurements I made for the stand are for my Vox Cambridge Twin Reverb amp that measures 22.5inches x 9inches x 16inches and weighs 40 lbs.

I'm pretty sure most combo amps will fit on this stand.

I like this! I'm thinking I may try building one a bit different. Make the whole thing wider and instead of one tube across the middle, have two so that the edge of the amp will sit on the floor and the stand will just cradle the bottom and back of the amp while the weight sits on the floor (and gets better resonance.

Would this be able to support my 50 pound Vox VT50 or my, I'd say, 32 pound 2x12 cabinet?

I might make something like this, but by welding square tubing together, since i have a class i can do that in at school, so i kind of have to use your pictures to make plans. Now i can't say i'll make an instructable on it, since i don't have neither a good enough camera, enough time, and other issues. But if i do it, i'll surely give you credit for it, and if i remember to, i'll update you on the result. I'd make it out of PVC, but i have the option of BUYING PVC tubing, or getting square tubing for FREE at school, so i figure, a little more effort is worth the money i don't have right now xD

Trying to imagine and draw a foldeable version[which i would make of square tubing], but its sooo complicated. I need to stare at it longer.

dude, if that's an AC30, you are so crazy for using PVC to hold it up...

ah, just reread your text there...you're still crazy, but at least it's not my favorite amp...

This is really close to my design that I drew out. In mine though, the spine was made with a slightly larger gauge pipe fitting into a smaller one with holes drilled into the sides to make it adjustable. you'd have to remove the post holding the base of the amp in the front, and not glue the center to make a hinge. I'll have to do more research though. Good job!

A thort in engineering efficiency . It's a GREAT design, and all angles are covered... as far as stress and loading goes. I would be making the next one fully supporting of the base of the amp, a narrow ledge is unstable.... And I'd rely upon the inherent strength of the material to make a double cradle.. sort of like two bike frames without the top tubes (and no forks or chainstays), and to only have narrow vertical pillars, to eliminate tilt or toppling.

About how much did this cost you? I like this better than the humoungous metal ones, as i only want to tilt my amp up, and get it off the ground.

Wow, PVC piping must be cheap where you live. I checked out the price for 10feet of PVC today and it was going to cost me $7, all up im looking at about $25 for all the materials... Looks like i gotta go dumpster diving again XD -LD

Great! I'll have to add about 10 bucks to that, because im gonna spray paint mine black to match my amp. (Crate RFX30)
Jul 19, 2007. 10:51 AMMetal4God says:
that will cost you about 3 bucks
Aug 15, 2007. 1:34 AMCaffeineHouse says:
yeah, what kind of spraypaint costs 10 bucks? only if you're buying the really expensive rust-oleum stuff... which would be kind of a waste in this case.

you can get CHROME spray paint and it makes it like a chrome and shiny

Apr 20, 2007. 10:46 AMcrapflinger says:
nice! haven't seen blue PVC either hehe would be cool to only glue the parts that need to be glued together..like maybe the base? and the main portions of the upper supports? that way you could take it apart for easy transport?

This is nice. Too bad my bass amp is already designed to lean back, to be used as a monitor. Not to mention that it's probably too heavy for PVC (not too sure what the weight limit is on PVC pipes). Good instructable, nevertheless :)
