I may not be able to get to all the different terms of paintball because there is all the gear which is the easy part but there is also terms reffering to the field and positions, different game formats, and an endless amount of slang, but I'll try to cover what I can and I'll say it again is this instructable, ask question if you have them. Ask me or go to techpb.com
I'll also include some sources on where to get gear in these pages, so that you can follow the links and see the gear as well as price it and see what you want.

Signing UpStep 1Whats all the different gear used in paintball? And Brands?
For brands go to an online store like ansgear.com and just browse through the different gear and brands of gear so you know what gear belongs to who.
Guns: Also known as markers, the gun is one of the most important parts of the game although with the loader and tank it is useless. The marker is obviously what takes the abuse from you and what does the shooting. Guns come in all different shapes, colors, sizes, and styles but the function is all similar but performance and price greatly varies.
Get a gun that fits your type of play, if your going to be in the woods then you'll probably want a gun that is more tactical, camo maybe, is well balances and stable with effective range. If your going to go play alot of speedball then you'll want a higher performance gun, thats electronic with good board modes of fire and adjustable to fit your style. You'lll also want something light weight and very comfortable because you'll be spending alot of time shooting it constantly.
Another thing is decide what you can afford and research your gun of choice alot before actually buying it, if it looks cool but has tons of problems then I wouldn't recommend getting it. Research it on techpb.com to get feedback from actually user and not advertisers.
Hoppers: Also known as loaders or feeders. This is what feeds the paintballs into your gun. Most that are used these days are electric which are more consistant and way faster, and I recoomend picking up a good one of these before you buy your gun so you can actually shoot it like it's suppose to be shot and get alot more out of it.
Electric hoppers range alot in price from $20 or $30 to kits that are $200+ but for an entry level player you can get a good one for alot less then $200. And again Research It. Techpb.com is the best way to go and no i am not paid for advertising them i just have great experience with the website. Find something to suit you and your guns needs.
Tanks: Also known as bottles this is what holds the pressurized gas used to propell the paintballs through the air at 300fps(feet per second). DO NOT use CO2 that's a waste of time and money and most guns don't work with CO2 anymore anyway. Get a HPA(high pressure air) system instead.
For HPA you can get cheap steel tanks that are 3000psi or you can get carbon fiber tanks that are 4500psi. The carbon fiber tanks are alot more but i recommend getting one if you can with your budget. Carbon fiber tanks last longer per fill and are lighter which can give you that edge you need in the heat of a game.
Masks: Also known as goggles, this is what keeps ur face from getting injured when playing and it is a must have for paintball. Not onnly will organized fields not let you play without them but you can be seriously and permantly injured without one.
They range alot in price, stlye, and comfort so try to find one in your price range that also fits into your budget.
Clothing: Paintball clothing designed to play in such as jerseys, pants, undershirts, and slider shorts all have padding and a fit to them thats made just for paintball. The padding helps with the pain of hits as well as diving and sliding, and also it helps hits to bounce rather then break.
Get what feels good and looks good to you and also whats fits in your budget. There is such a huge selection on clothing I'll go ahead and put up a link to the clothing section but just use reviews and ask around to see what people like, or go to your local paintball store and ask to try on some cllothing and see what you like. http://www.ansgear.com/Paintball_Clothing_Apparel_s/81.htm
Pads: I'll put this in a seperate section from clothing although it serves a similar purpose. This will go a long ways for protecting you and don't skip out on pads, get some noce pads with good protection. There's all different types of pads and companies and it's really just peronal preferance so I'll throw up the link to the wholee pads section. http://www.ansgear.com/Paintball_Pads_Protection_s/222.htm
Pod Packs: Also known has a harness this holds pods or tubes of paintball that you can quickly grab for and despence while on the field. This allows for extra storage so that if you run outt you have more one you so you can quickly reload and get back into the game.
Prices, styles, and sizes vary quite a bit on packs. from the smallest ones that only hold 2 to some that hold 13 pods or more, depending on what you need and what you can afford you'll be able to find something that suits ur needs and fits well. Here's a link to a selection of NXe 2010 packs, and I personally think NXe makes the best packs but thats opinion. http://www.ansgear.com/2010_NXe_Harness_s/1680.htm
Cleats: Cleats aren't absolutely needed in some types of play but you will need some type of shoes or boots with good traction. Exalt is the only company that I know of that makes paintball specific cleats but football or soccer cleats will work great to, just be careful not to get metal cleats, because in airball ecspeacially that can puncture the bunkers. Here's a link to the Exalt paintball cleats http://www.ansgear.com/Exalt_TRX_Paintball_Cleats_Black_p/exalttrxcleats.htm
