I will show you how to paint your Rock Band guitar like Eddie Van Halen, so it looks awesome!

I already painted my pick guard so I will show you with the headstock. It is the same process, only you are going to want to take your pick guard off to do this. Just take the screws out and yank off the tone knob. It will then come right off.

Step 1: What You Will Need

Your are going to need sandpaper, a screwdriver, spray paint, masking or painters tape, something to cut the tape to different widths, a safe place to spray, a safe place to let it dry (I have a cat), and a clear coat spray to protect it.

Step 2: Sanding

Sand down the surface you want to paint. This will help the paint to stick. I used 150 grit paper.

Step 3: Painting the First Color

If you are doing a similar pattern to mine, then you will want the first layer to be the color you want the lines to be. Spray outside in a safe place. When you paint the head stock you don't want the wind to blow paint over your guitar. Tape off any place you don't want paint to cover. You should cover the guitar with newspaper. Don't cover it with one heavy coat. Instead use a few light coats a few minutes apart. Read the back of your spray cans before you use them.

Step 4: Taping Off the Pattern

Make sure the paint is totally dry before you put tape on and spray the next coat. The spray can should say how long you have to wait before you recoat. Don't put tape on too soon, it may pull off some of the paint. When you place the tape on the surface, make sure it wraps all the way around the edges.

Step 5: Painting the Second Color

Once you have taped off the pattern and made sure your guitar is protected, go ahead and spray the second color. Make sure not to spray to thick. If you do, it may soak through the edges of the tape and you will get fuzzy lines.

Step 6: Remove the Tape

Let the paint dry and then go ahead and remove the tape. Do this carefully so that you don't scratch any of the paint off. Now you are almost done.

Step 7: Clear Coat

Now you want to finish it off with a clear coat spray. This will help to protect the paint from scratching and rubbing off. Here you will want to use a few light coats instead of one heavy coat. Once this is totally dry, you can take all the protective coverings off.
