Paper Claw 2.0

I made a paper claw a few months ago on instructables, and that design wasn't very good, it was small, it had rubber bands on it so the outside didn't look too great and it couldn't pick stuff up. I knew that I could make it better, the way of how it moved and was put together was not created until then, and I so far haven't seen any claws that use a design like this. This claw is based loosely off that design by that it has the same way how it is held together, every thing else is different and better.

This new design is bigger, it can now pick stuff up,and it uses a different way of making the claw open and close, so there is no external parts except the claw segments. It could also be made to suite to what you need, metal for heavy duty, it being longer to pick up stuff for the disabled, plastic for the cost and strength, or any thing else that is flat that you have laying around!

Step 1: Supplies

Here are the supplies

• paper(I used thick cardstock but cardboard should work, i didnt test it out)
• snippers
• glue
• wire (26 gauge is what i used)
• a regular paperclip(not the small kind)
• plyers
• scissors
• and a tack or pin

I build it! Very cool. I should have used thicker card stock for the inner assembly - it's a little flimsy in my version. Maybe I should have doubled everything up instead of just the claws. I also used paperclips which I think are were a little too think which made everything a little more tricky to build. Well, it proved to be too difficult for one 2 hour class period, lol. I ended up finishing them for all the 7-9 year olds, and only doing the middle part for the older kids. I had them specifically look at how they were put together and said I wanted them to think of ways to make their own versions out of different materials or sizes.

I called this their prototype. :)

Please help! On this step, how did you connect the third piece? I could probably figure it out , but it would use alot of improvising and i'm afraid of messing it up.....

Oh, you are making it, Good luck, you are almost done!

Ok, for the third piece you will have to "wing it", just try to bend the wire so it is tight enough, and push it into the extra hole. It is fine it it is a kinda loose, if it is too tight it wouldn't move very well.

When you are done make sure to post a comment on the first step and I will give you a patch!

if you make the main body like an oval it would almost look like the portal gun

As I was making the plans a few weeks ago(i was really busy and I forgot about it) I was trying to make this for a replica of the gravity gun from the half life series. If you were to do it you would have to make it like this and then cover it with an oval like cylinder.

Very interesting, but how is this used as a kid's toy? I'm older than duct tape and I just don't get it.
