Introduction: Paper Scrolls

Materials:

Paper

Wooden dowels (I used cake pop sticks because I didn't have dowels )

Paint

Glue

Tea bag

Thread/string (optional)

Ribbon (optional)

Printed template (this template works for a small scroll)

{If the template fails to load, the template is 20cm by 11cm. The lines for rolling up to are 5cm from the top and bottom}

Step 1: Step 1:

To begin, get your sheet of paper (mine was A5) and use a tea bag and some water to cover both sides. Make sure it is nice and brown to make the paper look older. Leave to dry for a few hours or use a hairdryer if you are impatient (like me!).

Step 2: Step 2:

Get the template and measure the width, and draw it on with a pencil. This will guide you where to burn the paper up to. I would suggest using a lighter instead of matches because it is easier and you would end up using loads of matches. You only need to burn the paper along the side edges, not the top and bottom.

Step 3: Step 3:

Paint your wooden dowels brown at the ends. You don't need to paint the entire stick because only the ends will be showing (it is unnecessary and messy). Then add another coat of paint to make sure no white is showing. Now leave to dry.

Step 4: Step 4:

When the dowels are dry, put a thin strip of PVA glue onto the top and bottom of the paper and stick a dowel at each end. You may need to hold it in place for a few seconds. Then line up the template with your paper and roll the edges until you reach the black line. Glue this into place.

Step 5: Step 5:

Decorate your scroll however you want!

Optional:

You can tie a piece of string at each end of the top dowel so you can hang it on your wall. I was going to give mine as Eid presents so I rolled them up from each end and tied it together with gold ribbon.

There you go! This is quite an easy little instructable that I think is really cute. I hope you like it too. :)
