Step 1: Hamburger fold squared

neatly fold the 8.5"x11" sheet of paper in half (to look like a hamburger shape as opposed to a skinny hot dog fold). open it, and fold the two flaps into the middle, so it is split in 4 (second picture).

I don't understand the middle diamond cut. Maybe when I make it...

THANKS! I've had a folded tyvek mighty wallet that I've used for several years, and it still has a lot of life left in it. So far, I've resisted the tempatation to take it apart to see how it was made. Your step-by step illustrated guide is so clear and easy to follow. I have already made several wallets while reading thru it. Lots of possiblities for customizing with different sizes of paper too.

I agree, bowmaster... awesome! My son regularly loses his wallets ... student-thinking I guess, rush rush rush - so I casn teach him this... or try the anti-wallet idea, also brill. My own key-ring has small acrds on it, plus I always attach it by the carber-thingy to the hole in the zip inside whatever bag I am using... the number of times this has stopped me from walking away from a counter , purse dangling... (so would have left it behind had it not been attached.) I have also a small credit-card sized magnifier and another one with a small light. BRILLIANT Ible, I really love this clever idea. Both ideas.Thnaks so much.

I put change in the secret pockets. Plus, I made a slit instead of slit and diamond to make inside pockets hidden.

I made mine out of cartoons from the newspaper and "laminated" it with packaging tape. Love the design by the way

That's pretty sweet. I made one just tonight but made it like I make my duct tape wallets I used to do. I have a really simple way of doing it and, if you wouldn't mind, would like your permission to make an instructable on it. So what do you say?

Just added a tiny magnet to keep the coin pocket closed. Works great:)

I used the piece of paper which remained after cutting out the holes for the credit card pockets. I just glued it behind the right side pocket and made a flap :)

This is a fantastic instructable. I've made tons of these, I've found the best combination to be paper that is laminated with clear packing tape on both sides. That one lasted me about 6 months. I tried making out out of aluminum foil laminated with packing tape, but it ripped in just about a week. I just made one out of Tyvek, hopefully that will last just as long!! I don't think I'll ever buy a wallet. Not when these things are so elegant, thin, and cheap!!

make one out of an express mail envelope. This perfectly designed wallet goes from lasting two or three months of everyday use to lasting over 2 or 3 years. Not to mention it is tearproof/waterproof at that point :) 5 stars and thumbs up again!

So I was sitting here late last night, reading a tutorial on boot shining, and when I clicked to the next step, a page came up informing me of a "furniture move" in process, but would I like to make a paper wallet in the meantime? I sat there for a moment like... wha?- oook, why not?

I downloaded and reviewed the template and instructions, and low and behold, I comprehended the design and measurements!

As I didn't feel like turning my printer on, upon close examination, I realized I could figure it out from scratch! With my handy pencil and piece of bright blue cardstock, I got to work. A little measuring here and a little cutting there, before I knew it, I was folding it into its last halves.

As I tucked in the final pieces and viewed the finished model, I was quite satisfied. But then the thought occurred to me: all good wallets either have a cool design on them or have a cool texture or look, in and of themselves. So, what my wallet lacked on the texture side, I was going to make up for on the design side.

So I sat there thinking. Should I use a marker... ehh, what about some other paper? no, I wanted it to be really special. I looked down at my cool blue wallet and at the scraps that I'd cut off the corners and the center during the process, and all of a sudden, it hit me! What if I were to take the tiny triangles and arrange them on the centerpiece in some sort of design?!

As I lay the slivers out piece by piece, they seemed to shape themselves into a circle. I grabbed my glue! After tediously placing each blue triangle on the large piece of excess paper, I laid it on my wallet. Pretty cool! But... it seemed to blend in a little to much. A couple of seconds of brainstorming later, I ran into my craft room and emerged with some special chalk from a stencil company.

Testing it out on a separate piece of paper, I loved how it gave the effect of a glowy, cheerful cloud behind the sun-like design! I brushed it onto my wallet and glued the complete centerpiece on.

I am really pleased with the results! Thank you for posting this Instructable!

Common, its not that hard, just do what you did at the start, follow your creases. Dude, love the wallet, made it in five minutes in front of my computer.
