Thanks

Hi jmiller70

May be a little late to reply to you !

Just joined and was looking up paracord project as I use it to braid dog leads and collars (thanks to Doggie Stylish!!).

I found the web site woolybeartack.com - really funky reins! I bet they're like the reins I make as a base and then the funky wool braided over the top. Have a look at www.selleriestpierre.com to see what I mean.

I'm actually knitting my daughter a scarf out of wool like the wooly bear reins - might unpick it - teehee - lol !!

Looks like that site is dead...redirects to woollybear.com, some web hosting site.

"woolybear.com" was never the one with that info, it's been registered to the same person and pointed at the same business since the year 2000. They must have the address wrong.

go on eBay if you want cheap paracord, one of the sellers there offers it in 25 foot lengths for 1.97 each or something like that, in countless different colors and patterns. Shipping was only a couple of bucks to send it from Texas to Ontario. Real Cheap!

Check with Surplus stores, many of them don't carry it but will order it for you if you don't feel comfortable with online ordering. The one near me does it for me and I get a pretty good price, you may be surprised at the price you can get by asking for them to special order it. If you use a lot like I do, they may even get it in bulk and charge a lot less.

I used about 25 feet and wrapped my 4D Maglight. (Turks head, half hitch (repeat) and turks head.) Makes it 'not cold' in winter, the half-hitch ridge aligns it for your hand (thumb near the power switch,) better grip (non-slip and better for my hand size,) and an emergency supply of Paracord! With the added plus that you can identify your flashlight if you set it down.

The easiest, and probably cheapest is online. Go to Google and type in '550 cord', that's what it's called in the military today, because it can support 550 lbs. Sportsmansguide.com has 300 ft rolls for $24.97
Jan 30, 2011. 2:07 PMthirtyfivefox says:
Please note that that is 550cord static and not a dynamic rating... in my crazier military days we used to rappel from the third story of our barracks on a single strand. It was extremely dangerous and we all ended up with cuts in our sides from it. A 200lbs man can easily generate enough force to snap 550 cord. Also the 550lb rating only exists if the inner strands are present. Be safe and have fun with the stuff... we use it for everything... handles, tent and camo net tie downs, improvised slings, clotheslines, equipment tie downs, etc. very very versatile just be safe with the stuff..
May 9, 2010. 2:43 PMtictaclad says:
sorry i disagree...shipping will bump up the price and at sportchalet you can get 100 ft. for 8 bucks so its the same price but shipping kills
Aug 31, 2010. 6:54 AMjoe2171 says:
I recently bought some new 550 cord, and by periodically going on google I was able to find an awesome deal on 1000' rolls of cord in multiple colors on LApolicegear.com for $12.99, and shipping was only $5.00...so for $17.99 I got enough cord to last a very long time.
Aug 31, 2010. 4:08 PMtictaclad says:
did you mean 100'??
Jan 30, 2011. 8:35 PMjoe2171 says:
No, 1000 ft...three zero's!

never usedparacord before and plan on buying some. does anyoneknow, afteryou cut it, can you fuse the end?
Oct 7, 2010. 8:06 AMemkayach says:
Don't cut it, burn it! Thta way it won't unravel at all. But be careful. When I was about 11 years old I used a candle to "cut" some paracord. When I reached across myself to put the candle down I rolled my left hand, palm up, which was holding the hot end of the paracord iIt stuck to the palm of my hand. At 61 years old I still have that scar. If you roll it between your fingers make sure your fingers are wet. Give a good lick first.
May 10, 2010. 7:00 AMjoe2171 says:
Yeah, you have to fuse the end otherwise the inner cords come out.

A little hit with a lighter and roll it between you're fingers...
