Introduction: Passion Fruit Vinegar (From Scratch) With Carrot Bell Pepper Salad
I just came across fruit flavored vinegar and was fascinated by the concept. Passion fruit was my first choice as it has a unique flavor of its own. the sour taste is just what I would like for a salad. Hence I tried making Passion fruit vinegar from scratch and then added it to my Carrot bell pepper salad. I must tell you, it tasted so tropical. Perfect for the summer heat.
These are so easy to make. This is a great, unusual, easy-to-make salad for a dinner party.
Here I have showed how to make Passion Fruit Vinegar from the scratch. I have used it with a simple Carrot Bell Pepper Salad
Step 1: Ingredients
Homemade Passion Fruit Vinegar:
500g Passion Fruit Pulp (from about 1kg of Passion Fruits)
300ml Cider Vinegar or Rice Vinegar
200g Raw Honey
Carrot Bell Pepper Salad Passion Fruit Vinaigrette:
Carrot - 2 cup
Bell Pepper (Sauted in oil) - 2 Cup
Tomato - 1 Cup
Olive Oil - 1/4 Cup
Passion Fruit Vinaigrette - 1/2 Cup
Salt - as required
Step 2: Passion Fruit Vinegar (From Scratch) - Scoop
Scoop out the pulp from the passion fruit into a vessel.
Step 3: Strain
Use a strainer to remove the seeds from the pulp. Lightly mash it up with a fork to release more juice from the pulp.
Step 4: Store
Add the vinegar to pulp. Leave it to macerate for 2 days. Keep stirring once or twice.
Step 5: Cook
Bring the vinegar slowly to a gentle boil, stirring with a wooden spoon occasionally. Add the honey at this stage. Boil gently and steadily for ten minutes. Take off the heat.
Pour into sterilised bottles. Seal and store in a cool dark place.
Step 6: Salad Prep
Grate the carrot.
Cut the green bell pepper lengthwise. Saute it if you like it that way. Add some salt.
Cut tomato into small cubes.
The veggies for the salad is ready.
Step 7: Ready to Serve
Toss salad mix in large bowl with Passion fruit vinaigrette, and Olive Oil.
Drizzle some of remaining vinaigrette over it.
