Introduction: Pastel De Arroz De Bilbao

About: I'm currently studying Coastal Engineering, I'm crazy for miniatures and dioramas, and I see a opportunity of improvement in every broken thing.

It's a tipical dessert from Bilbao and, thought it's called "Rice pie", rice is not one of its ingrediients. It's thought that it was originally made with rice flour, so the pie kept the name. It's delicious and super easy to make, so let's start with this lazy-proof recipe!

Step 1: Ingredients

1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup cream
3.5 Tbsp brown sugar
2.5 Tbsp flour
50g butter
12 wafers for empanadas (Basic sweet pastry dough for empanadas)

Step 2: The Mixture

First melt the butter. Then, dump all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them with a mixer until it becomes homogeneous. 

Step 3: Preparing the Wafers

- To place the wafer in the mould the best thing is to fold it in four and then unfold it once it's in the mould. Better see picture.
- Pour the mixture in each of them. The mixture is very liquid and it's easier to do it with a spoon.
- Bake them for 30-35 min at 356ºF (180ºC)
- Let them cool on a rack and enjoy!

    Thank you for this recipe! I've wanted to make this since visiting Bilbao and haven't known how!

    The flour in the photo of ingredients is Maizena-- harina fina de maiz. Is this a fine cornmeal? Should I use wheat flour or cornmeal?

    Also for those cooking in the US, it seems unsalted butter, 2% milk, and light cooking cream (as opposed to whipping cream) are the US equivalents of the pictured ingredients. Does this seem correct, @misko13?

    Those look good! I haven't seen those wafers, do you think a flour tortilla might work?

    I think a tortilla will work fine because their ingredients are almost the same. Here's a recipe for the wafers:

    - 3 Tbsp olive oil
    - 6 Tbsp mik
    - 100 gr flour
    - Pinch of salt
