I made this shelf using 8" paving stones from Home Depot and some pine boards my previous roommate had left behind when she moved (they were the base of her bed frame). I had some fun playing around with centering the board for each shelf and, hence, the staggered appearance. It cost me about $10 to make and has been rather functional thus far.
