Paving Stone Shelf

I made this shelf using 8" paving stones from Home Depot and some pine boards my previous roommate had left behind when she moved (they were the base of her bed frame). I had some fun playing around with centering the board for each shelf and, hence, the staggered appearance. It cost me about $10 to make and has been rather functional thus far.

You can also varnish/pollywhatchamacallit the pavers.

It gives them a nice luster and keeps dust from flaking.

How are the paving stones secured to the shelving?

They are held in place by their own weight. The top shelf is mildly insecure, but considering it is centered, I haven't had any problems yet.

We used make shelves at university, but we used house bricks. Yours look way way nicer!
