In Australia the pay phones say that the machine is out of order if you hold down 7. then hang the phone up.

Dial 570 and the pay phone number then hang up and it does the same thing, You can do it at home as well and it will set the time on caller ID phones (( if you to lazy, i mean forgot where the instruction book was put )) To get the Pay phone number in most areas it a free call to 311

By the way, that's a test code to make sure the phone functions, and people get cranky if that's abused. Of course, go have fun with it enough and the codes will get changed. It's just one line of computer code.

It only works is some parts of the us. in Eugene Oregon it is 551 and then the last four digits of that phone but you must hang up four times and only on qwest pay phones.

Go to 7-Eleven and check, it's not that tough. It's not like the Phone Policewill arrest you if you try and it doesn't work. All Qwest payphones are essentially the same. The question is the system it's hooked up to. Seeing as Qwest simply works off of an old Sprint network in both areas, it ought to work both places.

It's actually the phone company's programmer test function and it's only for AT&T public phones i believe
