Introduction: Peggys Cove Lighthouse Lamp

For long time I've had bulb socket with cord that I got from my friend's broken lamp. Because of unusual holder for bulb(metal part that turns almost for 90 degrees) I could not think out new form for the lamp. Even I have 3d printer and could thing any form, simple form was not inspiring for me. But one day I've stumbled upon article about 3d printer lamp-lighthouse http://3dtoday.ru/we-print/lampa-mayak/ and that was it.

1. Chord with bulb socket and switch

2. 3D printer and ABS plastic

3. LED bulb

4. Aluminum foil

5. Aceton

6. Some decoration materials like thread for the fence and transparent plastic for windows.

7. Pilers

Step 1: Step 1: Find or Create 3D Model

Initially I wanted to build not any lighthouse lamp, but the one that I will like and that also will fit weird socket connector that I have. So I went to Google Images and browsed about 60 lighthouses until I've found Peggys Cove Lighthouse from Nova Scotia. I looks just beautiful and have small extension where essentially I was able to hide socket connector. Also construction is not so complicated and I was planning to model it on my own in OpenSCAD, but I was lucky to find model on Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1158297

Step 2: Step 2: Print First Part

In my case lighthouse model was made from 6 parts not including racks for the fence and windows.

I've scaled model and started from bottom part, and turn out out that I was a bit off in scaling.

Better to be wrong in 1 oversized part then in 6.

Step 3: Step 3: Print All Other Parts

Well just routine process. After printing you might need to remove supporting parts, in model that I used it was only small supporting part easily removable. If you have complex model you probably should think about removing parts before printing.

Step 4: Step 4: Mount Bulb Socket

I've cut hole with pliers and glued it after.

Also I've cut substrate out of thin polyurethane foam in order to make it more stable and added small reflector made with aluminum foil from chocolate.

Step 5: Step 5: Mount All the Parts

Mount all parts together and check that everything is fits fine, also check that light works.

Step 6: Step 6: Add Some Decoration

I did for the fence and windows I used custom solutions,

Well I've printed pile for the fence and used nylon thread to connect them, and for the window I used some transparent plastic from some product box with window(if you know proper name for such plastic please let me know in comments).

Step 7: Step 7: Glue All Parts Together

If you used ABS plastic you may use acetone and some leftovers in order to glue parts.

Since I've used two colors I made two jars with liquid plastic and used it for glueing.

N.B. I left one section unglued in order to have access to bulb in order to change it. LED bulb has long life but it is still limited.

After few hours of drying it is done.
