Yep, my dog Rodeo Bean died. And your dog will too. It is so tough to get over and when you finally do is a picture in a frame enough? What do you do with his collar, the fur you saved, his tags? This instructable is an idea on how to pay homage to your pet - of course it doesn't have to be a dog, in a small, timeless, tasteful way that will make you feel you have done right by your best friend.

My weiner dog Possum Bean is very much alive but I am using his photo here to demonstrate this Instructable as Rodeo Bean's memorial-tin was done a long time ago.

What a nice idea. My late cats got a memorial butterfly garden with birdbath when Bertie died. I had been carrying Agatha's ashes around for 7 years, not sure what to do with them. When I finally make the mosaic marker stone to go in the center, I'll mix the rest of their ashes in the concrete.
In our family we also use "Bean" as an affectionate suffix. It started when my son was a preschooler. You are the first other person I have noticed doing the same thing.

This is such a great way to commemorate the loss (and remembrance) of a great pet, thanks for posting it.

I think you have a product there, kiddo.
Ninzerbean (author) says: Aug 22, 2010. 12:39 PM
I thought about it while I was making the 'ible, but it would make me too sad, I'm too much of an empath for people's feelings. Thank you for saying so though.
jgderuvo says: Aug 24, 2010. 10:29 AM
But healing comes from stuff like this. Seriously. I can see that hanging up in the pet section at Walmart, Target, everywhere. I know I'll be making one for my pet who died after over 20 years with me. Thanks for the -ible!

Grieving is a luxury, it's something to hold on to. Healing is letting go, sometimes people don't want to stop the luxury of grief. Once I realized that, I saw what I was doing and stopped. I saw as it as really very self-indulgent. Thank you for your comment, you are right.
jgderuvo says: Aug 24, 2010. 12:09 PM
Well that means you were ready to. That's what the 7 stages is all about. Bet just because you let go of the grief, doesn't mean you let go of the memories. Which makes your idea so splendid.

What a fun way to remember all the pets in our lives! I can't wait to find photos from all the albums to create these pet memorials for Frisky, Skipper, Trixie, and Suki!

That is super - thanks for sharing! Enjoy those oysters...

What a wonderful way to remember your special Rodeo Bean ! ...and a great pet memorial for a beloved pet no longer with us.
Ninzerbean (author) says: Aug 23, 2010. 10:35 AM
Thanks Grandbunny, he is still missed... Possum Bean and Taxi Bean are the best living dogs but Rodeo was so special...

I may have to revisit this in a bit when I'm ready to do something with my sweet Clicquot's remains. Very dear project.
Ninzerbean (author) says: Aug 23, 2010. 10:31 AM
Yes, it takes time, I couldn't even talk about Rodeo Bean for 2 years with out crying. He was only 8 years old. A genetic disorder, we had two months knowing there was nothing to be done.

I carried my dogs tags on my keychain for years. They went through numerous cars, relationships and domiciles and never gave up. Just like him. I wish I had been smart enough to do this as well. Thank you for sharing this.
Ninzerbean (author) says: Aug 23, 2010. 6:44 AM
Your idea is great too - I have another dog besides the wiener dog, who's tag is one I made when I was a jeweler, but my phone number has changed, putting her tag on my key chain is a great idea. Thank you.
