Introduction: Pineapplebobthegreat's Semi-Auto Halo Assault Rifle

About: none, absolutely none
First of all, thanks to The Jamalam for checking out all of instructables to make sure this gun hadn't been posted yet.

Now, in my slideshow, I said that the concept had been used two times before. By "the concept", I mean the slingshot idea (first created by KillerK). However, I've modified the slingshot idea so that a magazine will fit. It holds 5 bullets and is Semi-auto. With one huge rubberband, it shoots about 5 feet. With two rubberbands, 10 feet. 3 rubberbands, 21 feet. With 4 rubberbands, 34 feet. With five rubberbands, 46 feet. (The rubberband is bigger than a broccoli rubberband, but skinnier as well. If you view the movie on how to the load the gun, you'll see the size of the rubberband. The video called Video of Halo shows you how to load the gun and the rubber band size.

*Pros:
  • Sturdy
  • Pretty realistic
  • Semi-Auto
  • 46 feet
  • Looks pretty sweet (in my opinion).
  • Comes from Halo (anything that comes from Halo has to be awesome). lol

Cons:
  • Magazine jams like 1/10 bullets, so basically once, during every two reloads, it'll jam. The good side is that it's easy to fix a jam, just nudge the bullet with your finger.
  • Takes two minutes to load all 5 bullets. (I know I said three in the slideshow, but I modified the gun before I made this instructable and it's easier now to load.)

So, please rate and comment. If you don't like it, save yourself some time and don't bother commenting a bad comment. I worked pretty hard on this gun (5 hours or so).

I've just had a knex war using this gun. It worked really well. The only downside was that I had to hide out for 2 minutes to load. (It was my friend and I playing.) My friend said it kind of hurt, so be careful when using the 5 rubber bands.

Step 1: The Top Magazine/Rubberband Incaser

I know that the real halo battle rifle does not open up at the top, but I wanted to add something a little bit cooler to the gun.

1: Make two of these walls.
2: Gather these parts.
3: Attach them like so. Leave one Y-connector for the second wall.
4: Attach the second wall on. Put the second Y-connector on.

Step 2: Fake Barrel

This is the fake barrel. The bullet flies out just above it.

1: The completed fake barrel.
2: Build this. This part will attach to the gun.
3: Build this.

Refer back to the first picture if you need help on where to connect picture 2 & 3.

Step 3: The Grip

This grip is pretty comfortable. It's not much to wrap your hand around, but it's sturdy.

1: The completed grip.
2: Build this.
3: Another view if you needed help.
4: Gather these parts.
5: Make this.
6: Areal view: Connect with gray 1-slots. This view makes it easier to build.
7: Remember those white rods that I showed in picture four? Slide them into the slots as shown. Leave the one with the gray 1-slot for the next picture.
8: Slide the gray 1-slot into place.

Refer back to picture 1 if you need help on where to connect. It doesn't really matter which side goes where.

Step 4: The Front Body

This is the front body of the gun. Its purpose is to hold the three parts we just made.

1: Make two of these walls.
2: Gather these parts.
3: Make these.
4: Attach the pieces from pic. 2 & 3 on the wall in the areas shown.
5: Attach the second wall on.

Step 5: The Magazine

Not much to say about the magazine...lol. Just, don't go searching around your house for a People magazine.

1:The completed magazine.
2: Make two of these.
3: Make two of these.
4: Make two of these.
5: Make this (the pusher).
6: Gather these parts.
7: Attach one of the walls from pic 2 and one of the walls from pic 3 together with the four blue rods.
8: Slide the pieces from pic 4 onto the blue rods like so.
9: Attach a wall from pic 3. Attach a wall from pic 2. Slide the pusher in. Make sure the gray 1-slot at the bottom is flat so the pusher can slide in as high as possible.

Step 6: The Back Body

This is a very important body because it holds the mechanism, trigger, and handle.

1: The completed body.
2: Make two of these.
3: Gather these parts. You actually only need one orange connector, not two.
4: Attach one gray connector and one orange connector on a wall from pic 2.
5: the gray 1-slot comes off one side and the orange connector comes off the other. Ignore the pieces scattered around my room.
6: Gather these pieces.
7: Attach here on the same wall that you attached the pieces during pic 4 &5.
8: It should look like this now. I don't think you can see it very well, but the gray connector from pic 4 &5 is there.
9: Gather these parts. Set the spare gray 1-slot and blue spacer for later.
10: Slide here.
11: Another view so it's easier to see.
12: Gather these parts.
13: Slide on here. Put two spacers on.
14: Slide on the wheel. Put two more spacers on. You should have 2 grey 1-slots left and 2 spacers left. We'll use them later.
15: Make this (the trigger/blocker).
16: Attach here.

Now put the second wall on. Refer to picture 1 to see how it looks if you need help. Now you should have 4 grey 1-slots and 3 spacers.

17: First, slide one spacer here and put one gray 1-slot on this bar. Also, snap the second gray 1-slot onto the space shown. (Behind the bar.)
18: On the wheel, add a spacer and a gray 1-slot to each side.

Step 7: The Handle

This is the handle. It's pretty comfortable and sturdy.

1: The completed handle.
2: Make two of these.
3: Gather these parts. (1 blue rod and 14 orange connectors).
4: Snap the blue rod and the orange connectors into place as shown in the pic.

Snap the second wall on. Refer to the first pic. if you need help.

Step 8: Connection

You're almost done! Connecting is pretty simple. The_Burrito_Master was the first person to make this kind of picture with the pieces separate.

1: All the pieces you have now.
2: Snap the handle and the back body together. It's pretty straight-forward.
3: Attach the magazine to the back body.
4: Attach the front body to the magazine.
5: Attach the grip by putting the red connectors as shown.
6: Connect the front barrel as shown.
7: Make this. (It's the butt of the gun).
8: Snap it into place on the back body.
