Want to make a flash drive that nobody in a modern office would even think about taking? Hide it in a pink eraser and it's secure in this digital age.

Step 1: Get your erasers and flash drive

IMG_0366.jpg
You can get a couple of erasers in an office supply store or an art store. They're cheap.

The flash drive I got at an office supply store. I got a 1 gig since I barely ever use that much as I use flash drives for moving small files around. I don't need anything bigger for now. This is also pretty cheap.

Bonus points for the pink cap on it. It was like this flash drive wanted to be in an eraser from the beginning.

What attachment did you put on your rotary tool to hollow out the pieces?
1827110 says: Jun 6, 2012. 8:37 PM
I just hid a small one in the USB thing of a mouse.

Then I took it apart and pot it in a pen!

Also, I saw it in More Show Me How. It's a great book, and in one of the pages was about hiding your flash drive. One of the examples was a pink eraser. In this case though, I think it was a nicer form of copying. Anyway, great instructable!

I find it interesting the tutorial, above all, very original, is ideal because it fulfills two functions

Here's what it would be like at school:

student erases something with this

student shows up and uses it too

while he does this the cap falls off and reveals to be a flash drive

expecting to see things, the student puts it into the computer

and what shows up is a very complicated math problem that explains how 2+2=10.

What bit did you use to hollow out the eraser? Thanks!

If you read the tutorial, it says that he used a rotary tool. One of the biggest manufacturers of a rotary tool is Dremel. Google it.

rachelmaryb says: Dec 29, 2010. 11:23 AM
Can't you just put the usb in whole?
fungus amungus (author) in reply to rachelmarybDec 29, 2010. 2:32 PM
No, then you'd have to gut the eraser so that it was extremely thin, which is a pain and likely to fall apart.
nubabuba says: Aug 21, 2010. 11:49 AM
u can just use an exacto knife but being extremely focused not to mess up.
chilll2009 says: Jul 6, 2010. 6:48 AM

If you dont know what a dremel is, google it :D A rotary tool is a more general term for a dremel. Dremel is a specific tool of the rotary tool catagory.

Why do we always have to cannibalize an existing USB drive?  Is there not a supply of "usb guts" available somewhere?
