Step 3 Installing the bootloader

Now you need the iPod to be capable of booting the Rockbox firmware you just installed.

- Make sure your iPod is connected.

- Download the ipodpatcher and run it.

- It will show some information about your iPod, as you can see from the image below. just type "i" and press enter, and the bootloader will be installed.

- Wait for it to finish (it only takes a minute). When the message "INFO Bootloader installed successfully" appears just press enter again to exit the ipodpatcher.

I like the way you've explained all the steps. Very educative. But for all those who have problems getting the wad files or loading rockbox things are made easier (copy & paste-practically) at the following site. Just download the file, unzip and read the simple instructions:

Most likely disk mode hasn't been enabled. Just check step 1 to be sure that's done.

It seems there is a problem with the link to the ipodpatcher. The page does not open, or even give a "the page cannot be displayed" message. Perhaps I misread the instructions somehow? Please help. Thx- MODX

The link is working, try right-clicking and the "save as..." option. You should download the ipodpatcher.exe file. If that doesn't work, go here and look for it under the "Manual Installation" topic.

Were do you get those super awesome utilitys on you desktop. I have xp can I still get them? Maybe with google toolbar? -Mike

Someone asked about them already, but here it goes: I'm using Flyakite OSX and Yahoo! Widgets, they look much better than the Google ones. Currently, these are the widgets on my desktop: Neon Clock, Neon Gauges, Dictionary, Yahoo! Weather.
