I've got a PSX but where would I find the bios off it?

Check out ePSXe's site for that kind of info.

This person did warn of the 'legal' issues, apparently collard and joem can't read. And showing instructions on how to do things that are 'illegal' is not a crime, example it is 'illegal' to make a nuclear weapon, it not 'illegal' to show how one is made. If information isn't available for learning, no one would ever learn and we probably wouldn't have things invented like the internet for people to rant about what they think is 'legal'. You two should just relax and let info be shared for the purpose of learning, this person is not saying to do this or even saying it's ok, just sharing 'how' it is done. You two act like they've committed terrorism or something, true terrorism lays in the censorship of knowledge. Besides, I doubt Sony cares if someone plays their games on their own personal comp, as long as they already have paid for and own the original system and games.

Actually, no: the president (or was it CEO or something...?) thinks that copying CDs for your own use is illegal even though it isn't.

When the instructable was published it did not have the legal warning. Please don't jump to conclusions about me :-) Thanks for posting the warning. Joe

If anyone was curious its not illegal to download games if you own an "original" copy it can be scratched as hell or be in two picses just as long as you can prove you payed for an original. But hey if you go to court don't mention me.

You CAN legally copy cds for your own use (not for sharing/selling/etc.), but I wouldn't recommend mass amounts of copies.

I had the first nine but I don't like the new ones as much. My copy of CTR doesn't work anymore as it is scratched, and I liked it alot more than Nitro Kart. I want to try this Instructible but I can't figure it out.

What are the min. requirements for this emulator... I'm thinking about playing FFVII on my computer without downloading the actual PC version, and i DO have the original disks, can i play the game directly from my PS1 disk? i don't want to add to some of the arguments below but i believe, don't hold me on this, that even if you own the original disk, downloading the game is illegal... but I'm not positive...

Jan 27, 2009. 10:30 AMDavidRobertson says:
how do you get the bios off your playstation?
Jan 29, 2009. 2:20 AMironsmiter says:
Fortunately(or UN, depending on your view), I have a "busted" psx, and a Parrallel port chip reader. So I "cheated" by desoldering the bios chip, and physically reading it into my pc.

You may find it easier/nicer/cheaper to goto the Emu Forums and follow the guide(and software posted) there.
The basics are
1. Burn CD with Shendo's(forum name of the guy/gal that wrote the software) BIOS dumper
2. Insert CD in PlayStation, dump BIOS to memory card
3. Load up UlaunchElf on PS2
4. Insert PlayStation memory card and USB stick
5. Copy BIOS dump from PlayStation memory card to USB stick
6. Copy BIOS dump from USB stick to PC
7. Use BIOS with pSX

P.S. if you have a "broken" system like I did, consider fixing it yourself and THEN doing the non-destructive bios copying.
Feb 1, 2009. 9:21 PMironsmiter says:
yep, we see that notice... I was TRYING to expand on your comment of "but there is an actual way to get it of your playstation but its a bit hard". Specifically for people/places where the DOWNLOAD is not-entirely-legal, even if you DO own the hardware eg. If you happen to own a machine that uses a different bios version. It's not too hard, so Instead of writing a completely different, half-baked 'ible... I thought the comments section would be a good place for it. Sorry if I stepped on your toes.
Jan 27, 2009. 7:22 AMJoe Martin says:
Please remove the links to the bios and the rom files, Instructable will be flagged because of this and the fact you have not warned anyone of the legal side of this.
Jan 27, 2009. 9:36 AMThe Jamalam says:
There's no rule that you can't post illegal content, because: a) Its bound to be legal somewhere b) It isn't doing illegal activity, it is showing you how. It's like in life skills lessons when they tell you how to take drugs. That is completely legal.
Jan 27, 2009. 10:27 AMJoe Martin says:
Go right up the the top of your screen and click on "Submit" Now go read the section "What's acceptable to post?"

Please refrain from posting illegal or illicit content.

And showing people how to use emulators and roms IS illegal as you are using them and to have have given people no warning what so ever regarding the legality of this.

SPYRO!
Jan 27, 2009. 5:08 AMironsmiter says:
Not sure about the legality of posting the PSX bios.... but if you do, consider naming it something OTHER than the same .rar name of the emulator(oops, it IS the same file, not just the same name :-)? Otherwise, a nice clean 'ible Guess I'll have to dust off the PSX, and grab a bios image off it. Then see if my PSX-Parrallel controller still works.(hate the x-box controllers, but having clean usb interface is so nice. Guess I wait till i can get a "cheap" ps3 controller)
Jan 27, 2009. 5:07 AMcollard41 says:
you do know that it is illegal to give out BIOSes. the only legal way is to take it off your own playstation
Jan 27, 2009. 1:42 AMsensoryhouse says:
congrats on your first 'ible. nice work!
