Instructables

This is an Instructable for an air tank that can be used with lego pneumatic elements for powering robots without continuous pumping. This goes along with my pneumatic snake, and my bike pump adapter instructables.

Step 1: Materials

You will only need a few things.
  • A plastic bottle that can hold pressure. I used a carbonated water bottle. Anything should work as long as the top seals.
  • A tube that your pneumatic hoses will fit over. I used some hard plastic ones that come in some lego sets.
  • Glue-preferably something thick. I used hot glue.
  • Something to make holes in the bottle cap about the size of the tubing. I used a drill but any sharp pointy object will work.

Step 2: Make It

This is a very simple process.
1. Make two holes in the center of the cap. If they are off to the side the cap wont seal
2. Cut two lengths of tubing about an inch long and put them in the holes
3. Secure them with glue.

Congratulations, you just built your first lego air tank.

Lego also sells these if you don't want to make one.
If you are willing to spend a little, "robart retracts" has alluminum air tanks and airline (for pneumatic retractible landing gear for rc airplanes ) the tanks are about 10$ for the small and 15-16$ for the large tank and about 7$ for 2 10 ft pneumatic tubing

Hi I liked your instructables that involved pneumatics. I am wondering if you could make them into knex versions with hospital syringes and tubing? If you are I will give all your instructables five star ratings.

I don't have any syringes, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt the instructables for knex.
I was wondering... Could you use a pneumatic "T" connector so you only have to use one hole?

You could but I found that "T" connectors that fit lego hoses are a lot harder to get then tubing that does.

What are the two smaller tanks made from? I understand that you glued Legos on the bottom but what are the actual tanks made out of?

Just two little bottles. Not sure what they were originally for.

LEGO, never LEGOS. it drives me nuts.

but cool pressure tank anyway.
