perfect for my wallet.
ilpug2 years ago
I shove a wire through the roll in between the cardboard roll and the lowest layer of tape, then make a ring out of that, and put a carabiner on it. Belt-carryable!
Good thinking! Simple yet practical.
wow that Disney card looks old!
beehard443 years ago
or make a case for it
a duct tape duct tape case?
that would be ace!
somebody has probably already said this but you could put variation #2 in your duct tape wallet for when you need to fix it or just have extra duct tape
regipalka5 years ago
U could just keep the pen as is and then have it able to still write
good idea or u can trim the ink cartridge too and insert it in
can someone say "Ink everywhere?"
but the cut end is inside the pen and its practivally water tight
just sayin that when you cut it open its gonna go everywhere, plus when you put it in the pen its still gonna be leaking out of the cartridge. So you wouldn't be writing with it very much
but iv cut pen cartridges b4 they dont leak
no...... Have you tried it?
yes i have, no ink coming out
my experience they do.
is this really a problem?
OF COURSE IT'S A PROBLEM!!! THE FATE OF THE WORLD DEPENDS ON A LEAKING PEN!!!!! lol
i like the littlle lol in that coment it seems lonley though
....lol...
or you could not cut the pen and avoid the problem altogether!
You are great, Musicman41, because you replied to my 1 year old comment

actually dude, your completely wrong, have you ever have a soda with a straw then put ur finger over one end, then took the straw out and saw the soda was still in there? that exactly what happens with a pen.
have you tried moving quickly with said straw? obviously not because you would see that if you do, the soda would come out of the straw. so unless the only movements you are going to be making with the pen are very small and very slow, like you would be making with the straw and soda, yes ink WILL be everywhere.
dude, just because its happened to you (probably cuz god hates u) it doesnt mean it's happened for everyone! ur acting so arrogant and ignorant
Why
Good idea!

I've found that version #2 will fit in a wallet better if you cut a bit off each end (or a notch) so the tape doesn't make it longer than a normal credit card.

var #2 works awesome, came in handy

I like the method where you put it in hot water, remove the cardboard, and put it in a vice overnight. that way, the entire roll is just compressed into a flat stick thing.

There used to be a comment pyramid (Replies stacked on each other) that stretched about 5 whole pages, and it LITERALLY EXPLODED THE WHITE SPACE and went to the side.... But that was back in April/May/June... *Sigh* Good times.

Anyways, your Instructable is very innovative!

why don't you add a little razor blade to the end so you can rip it off easier?
jehan601885 years ago
neat! but why bother mutilating the pen? leave it intact, and you've got a multitasker- pen + duct tape holder!
Unventor5 years ago
If you like duct tape, you owe it to yourself to buy a roll of gaffer's tape, commonly called gaff tape. True there are a couple of things duct tape does better, but give gaff a chance. The entertainment business abandoned duct tape ages ago for good reason, adhesive everywhere, even in our raccoon wounds. www.rosebrand.com
I have tape like this, but it is fabric type thing in the middle and duct tape on the outside, it was great. then I used it all, and a roll is like $13 bucks on ebay.

omg i love gaffing tape. One of the reasons is that instead of a shining reflective surface, you have a cloth surface which to me is also a lot stronger. Also i am in the media business and we use it all the time to keep our cables on the ground and out of the way. When you pull it up no mess and it has more stickiness to it. I even used it to fix up my camera stool with a foot rest. So yea i like gaffing tape...

I always need duct tape when there's none handy! Thanks to you I will never be without
tokymaru5 years ago
I used a piece of clear plastic and folded the edges over the tape turned out great good Instructable i colored on the plastic so it would show up on the camera

i did this with some duct tape. if you're careful and smooth out each layer, you can get about ten to twelve feet on a card and still have it be able to fit into most wallet slots:)

Or you can just put a chain through a roll of tape and wear it like flavor flav
=D5 years ago
it'd be better if you have like a cutter or something, cuz i have the heavy duty thick duct tape and it's really hard to rip it without any sharp thing. at school we have large rolls of cheap poster paper and there's this sharp metal thing that leans against the paper and you just use it to rip the paper off. sorta like your normal tape dispenser... it'd be cool if you can integrate that into the bic pen thing.
foxtrot46975 years ago
i used the other side of the pen the for the minipen mod for my friend cause i owe him one
I carry Duct Tape on my bike, wrapped like this around the pump handle.

I'm a photographer... and I keep an old film canister case as a spool for gaffer tape, you just wrap some tape around it, and you have a portable spool with space to store a few doodads inside it. Slightly larger than this idea, but you get that extra storage space as a bonus.
get a pen tube rap with tape trim it and put it in film canister

If you sew, or know someone who does--you could use an empty spool of thread from the brand called Metrosene. It has a spindle with two ends that are slightly larger. Perfect size for your pocket.

I used a drinking straw to do the same thing as you did with the pen and it was free with the purchase of a fast food soft drink.
Dorkfish926 years ago
i do it a little differently, i might have to post it. Nice job though!
Actually a good idea! I might have to do this, I hate bringing those huge rolls. Nice job. :P

Thanks! Remember to vote for me.
I use mine macgyver style, use about half of the roll then smash and flatten it. I <3 Macgyver.

I carry long strips attached to my binder at school. Its come in handy lots of times in the past.
http://www.instructables.com/id/portable-tape/

thats pretty similar to the card method.

sorry to have to tell you man. i gess its not Excactly the same, just the basic concept. that being said there are loads of small variations on duct tape wallets.
Sgt.Waffles6 years ago
Seen it before.
i think this is already an instructable or have you re-published it for the contest?
