I created this easy modular a few months ago while I was experimenting with simple modular origami.

It is a ring made out of six modules and because it's flexible structure, it is able to shift to several shapes while twisting reminding a kaleidoscope. It is also collapsable so you can take it everywhere in your pocket.

It is very cheap and easy to make even if you are not familiar with origami. You just will need a little bit of patience to learn how to make the modules.

And now, let's start with the instructable. Hope you like it.

Diseñé este anillo modular hace unosmeses cuando estaba experimentando con origami modular simple.
Se compone de 6 módulos y es capaz de tomar diferentes formas cuando se tuerce. Además, se puede colapsar y transportarse en el bolsillo a dondequiera que vayas.
Adicionalmente, es económico y fácil de hacer, inclusive si no estás familizarizado con el origami. Sólo se requiere una poca de paciencia para aprender a hacer el módulo.

Step 1: Materials

For making the ring you just need the following:

Six squares of metallized or wraping paper, size: 10 x 10 cm

However, if you want to make it more colorful, you will also need the following optional materials

Scissors
Cutter
Glue
Wrapping tissue paper of different colors or,
aluminum foil of different colors or,
watercolor markers or,
acrylic paint.

Adicionalmente si quieres hacer el anillo mucho más colorido, necesitarás
Tijeras o cutter
Pegamento
Papel de envolutura de diferentes colores, o
papel aluminio de colores, o
plumones de colores, o
pintura acrílica

Step 2: Making the Modules

This step is much easier to understand by watching it. So here is the video of how to make the modules. You have to make 6 modules for the ring.

Este paso es mucho más fácil de entender si se mira como hacerlo. Así que aquí está el video de cómo hacer los módulos Hay que hacer 6 módulos para completar el anillo.

Step 3: Optional Step: Color the Module, Option 1

These steps are optional. If you do not want to do them, just skip them and go straight to step five, you will obtain a single color ring.

However, kaleidoscopes are very colorful, so it is advisable to follow the next steps.

You have two options for doing it

Option 1.- This is the easiest one

Unfold the modules. You will notice that the creases have form a pattern with an inner square at the center and some trapezoidal forms all over the paper.

Look at the photos below and just paint the indicated areas of the module with the colours of your choice using watercolor markers of acrylic paint.

You have to paint both the front and the back of the paper with different colors.

Once you are done, fold the modules again following the folds you have already done. If you need assistante to fold the modules again, go to step four and watch the video.

Este paso es opcional, si no quieres colorear tu anillo, sólo continúa al paso 5 para ensamblarlo.

Sin embargo, como los caleidoscopios son muy coloridos, he aquí dos ideas de cómo lograrlo:

Opción 1: Desdobla el módulo y observarás que en el centro se marcó un cuadrado y en las orillas hay algunas formas trapezoidales. Mira las fotos abajo y pinta las partes señaladas con diferentes colores. Tienes que pintar ambos lados del papel.

Step 4: Optional Step: Color the Module, Option 2

Glue aluminium foil or wrapping paper of different colors to each module in order to give the ring a very bright appereance.

To me the easiest way for doing this without measuring a lot is the following; but you can do it in a different way. See the photos below for extra help and notes on each step.

First, start with the flaps:
1. Glue the flaps and then put foil paper on top of each flap.
2. Using a cutter or scissors, carefully remove the excess paper of each flap
3. Fold one flap to the left
4. Glue the area that looks like a trapezoid and put foil paper on top of it
5. Remove the excess paper again. You may want to unfold the model now to make this task easier. Besides you have to unfold the model to continue to the next step.
6. Turn the paper over. Cut a 5 x 5 square of paper, glue it and put it on top of the inner square maked in the paper.
7. Cut 4 pieces of foil paper and glue them as indicated in the photo below.

Once you are finished, fold the modules again as is shown on the video below.

Opción 2:

En lugar de pintar, pegar papel de envoltura o aluminio de colores en las partes señaladas del módulo. De esta forma, lograrás un anillo mucho más colorido e impactante.
Para mí lo más fácil en lugar de estar midiendo es hacerlo como lo describo abajo
Para mayor ayuda, revisa las fotos para cada paso abajo,

1, Comienza con las 4 puntas, ponles pegamento y pegales el papel que has seleccionado encima
2. Utilizando el cutter o las tijeras, remueve cuidadosamente el exceso de papel de cada punta.
3. Una vez que hayas terminado, dobla una de las puntas a la izquiera para dejar al descubierto la otra cara del módulo. Repite en la parte de atrás
4. Ponle pegamento al área con forma de trapezoide y pégale el papel de tu elección
5. Otra vez, retira el papel en exceso con el cutter. Puedes desdoblar el módulo para hacer la labor más sencilla. Además, es necesario desdoblar el módulo para continuar al paso 6.
6. Voltea el papel. Corta un cuadrado de 5 x 5 cm y pégalos encima del cuadrado interno que está marcado por los dobleces.
7. Corta cuatro piezas de papel y pégalas como se muestra en la foto abajo

Una vez que ya hayas terminado, dobla de nuevo el módulo como se muestra en el video arriba.

Step 5: Assemble the Ring

Once you have your six modules ready, assemble the ring as is shown in the following video.

Ya que tengas tus seis módulos listos, arma el anillo como se muestra en el video.

Congratulations! You are done. Enjoy twisting it. You can also experiment with it by adding less of more modules to it.
