Introduction: Pop Bottle Snowman

About: Handyman, tech-nerd, and traveler. I love to explore new ways of thinking about problems, and then find easy ways to solve them. I've been a part of the Instructables community for almost 7 years, though I was…

This is a great project for kids, you'll have fun making these pop bottle snowmen! (Hint: Be creative! Try your hand at a pop bottle penguin, or maybe Rudolf or Santa Claus).

Go to the next step for a materials list.

Step 1: What You Need

- 2-Liter plastic soda bottle
- Fine grit sand paper
- Plastic spray paint can lid (or similar size, like WD-40 or cooking spray)
- Plastic tub lid (Butter tub, Cool Whip, yogurt, sour cream, etc.)
- Red and black felt
- Pipe cleaners (Red, Green, & White)
- White and black acrylic paint
- Sponge brush
- Glue, Gorilla Glue is the best glue available and what I recommend.

Step 2: Building Our Snowman

Use the fine-grit sandpaper to sand the surface of the 2-liter bottle, and both of the lids (which will be our hat). This will ensure that the paint adheres to the plastic.

Using our sponge brush and acrylic paint, apply a thin coating of white to the bottle and a thin coating of black to the lids (Make sure you clean your sponge brush thoroughly when switching paints, don't mix them together!). Allow the paint to dry for the time recommended by the manufacturer.

Once our paint has dried, cover the lids with black felt. Center the spray can lid over the butter lid and glue them together, allow this to dry as well. Then, cut a hole in the bottom of the butter lid about 1 1/2-inches in diameter (This will allow your hat to rest on the bottle).

Fill your soda bottle with pebbles, sand, dirt, anything to keep it steady. Cut a strip of red felt the desired length and width for your scarf (you can use any color felt you want, and any pattern if you can find fancy ones).

Twist a few pipe cleaners together and line them around the brim of the hat if you wish, and secure with glue.

Take some glue and put a small bead around the perimeter of the hole you cut in your "hat". Glue the hat to the top of the bottle in the desired position.

Now you can cut out circles of black felt and glue them on for the eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons. Feel free to add embellishments such as real buttons or goggle eyes to your snowman.
