Thanks for this idea. I bet you can fill those holes where the popsicle sticks meet with wood epoxy or something similar. chawlk, etc. if you didn't want the pattern.

I may just have to try this some day.
pfred2 in reply to KaffeNov 14, 2011. 5:47 AM
If you trimmed off the rounded ends you'd have nothing to fill. You'd need to use a few more Popsicle sticks though.

ja i left a comen on your youtube video too and i have a question (another) you think its posible to make a solid body or a semi-hollow guitar or maybe a mandolin ive alwais wanted 1
redorchestra says: Jun 4, 2010. 8:27 PM
This would make an excellent ukulele. I might try it. Maybe only 1000 popsicle sticks!!!!

This is seriously so impressive.

I hope someday I can embark on a project like this, and come out with something half as good.

I view this instructable every few weeks, just for inspiration....wow.
sstenbec says: Sep 16, 2010. 8:50 PM
Hey, did anybody figure out who that was playing in the background?
Busupholstery, maybe you can help us with that.
Awesome looking guitar! Great craftsmanship!
busupholstery (author) in reply to sstenbecSep 17, 2010. 3:42 AM
The sound track is Garrick Davis......"GD Blues....." I got it on youtube standard tracks when installing my upload......I think it's great......Thanks for all the complements on the guitar
sstenbec in reply to busupholsteryOct 12, 2010. 7:46 PM
Thanks man!
cougerbat89 says: Jul 30, 2010. 3:56 PM
Next project: Bass made out of toothpicks! Kidding. I did not expect how much of the guitar would actually be made out of the sticks (The neck? Wow.) Was this frustrating or can I try something like this on a smaller scale? Say, a Ukulele?
rengawtm in reply to cougerbat89Aug 3, 2010. 7:09 PM
I was thinking of doing the same thing

wow wow wow!..you are a clever person...so much effort and time..i think you are the Master!...

Great work, almost luthier like :) Looks great, it even reminds me of my wooden floor inlay and colour, nice. Very boutique. One question though, what song did you use on your youtube video? I really like the wah-wah intro and the hammond solo. :) PS Do you know David Gogo ? Try to find his Blues Medley, its great ( and 9 minutes long.)
spcon says: Jun 3, 2010. 4:05 PM
Awesome.  If I may ask, can you post a video of this guitar being played?  I am very curious about how it sounds.
busupholstery (author) in reply to spconJun 4, 2010. 3:12 AM
I have no way of recording any reasonably good sounds......It would sound really bad with my computer mic.......Sorry.......
spcon in reply to busupholsteryJun 4, 2010. 3:17 PM
It's ok. Still pretty awesome!
dbp428 in reply to busupholsteryJun 4, 2010. 2:58 PM
just plug you guitar into the Line In on your sound card. you need a mini din to Jack adapter. such as: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&hl=en&q=guitar+to+computer+cable&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=468124153024647432&ei=gXYJTJn7E8H6lwe_vZCtDg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CD0Q8wIwAg# then use Windows Sound Recorder ( free with Windows) make a .wav file
-Syrus- in reply to dbp428Jun 16, 2010. 4:41 AM
Actually that is not a smart thing to do... You need something like a pre-amp.
busupholstery (author) in reply to dbp428Jun 4, 2010. 4:32 PM
It's not electric......no pickup
BrianJone5 says: Jun 3, 2010. 3:51 PM
Great 'able, and while I love Jazz & Blues, I'd have paid money to hear your guitar, however it sounds, however you play.

Nice one!
dmccormick001 says: Jun 3, 2010. 7:25 AM
Man, who in the heck is that playing on the soundtrack for your video?  That group is awesome!  Are you in the audio, is this guitar in it?  Give us a name, please!  I want to hear more of them...
Truffuls in reply to dmccormick001Jun 3, 2010. 10:03 AM
OMG, inorite! Please please please, someone ID the band on the video soundtrack, I got it cranking. It is awesome!
acaron194 in reply to TruffulsJun 3, 2010. 3:45 PM
I believe that is the great Jimmi Hendrix I may be wrong but it sounds a lot like him
highjacked says: May 26, 2010. 9:13 AM
You'd think the Popsicle sticks would give it a hollow sound - not very good for resonating. Could you post a video of a few chords, so that we could hear it?
guitarman63mm in reply to highjackedJun 3, 2010. 10:52 AM
highjacked:  Most popsicle sticks are made of either white birch or basswood, both utilized in guitars...the only thing is that no matter what method he had used, it is, as he said, made of popsicle sticks, which aren't absolutely uniform, and cannot be glued tight enough to resonate particularly well.

I love this project, one of the best I've seen on here in a good long time.  We need some more instrument ones.
busupholstery (author) in reply to guitarman63mmJun 3, 2010. 2:51 PM
Thank you Guitarman for making that a little clearer.........
marjorieallea says: Jun 3, 2010. 10:16 AM
Agree with comments on the soundtrack!  Awesome.  The video reminds me of a clip from Sesame Street that takes a "field trip" through a saxophone (or was it trumpet) factory and they're playing awesome notes as sound effects as the sax makes it down the assembly line.  Beautiful workmanship, beautiful finish - also curious about the sound, integrity after tightening strings, etc.
BankyEdwards says: Jun 3, 2010. 7:48 AM
This is one of the most impressive and amazing instructables that I have ever seen, and I will probably be making this... I would like to know how it sounds though.
Bryan Smith says: Jun 3, 2010. 6:55 AM
An amazing tribute to glue!
Nice work!...Most would have given up midway through.
rianocerous says: Jun 1, 2010. 10:25 PM
Wow, I'm in complete awe....this is incredible.

Amazing workmanship, seriously.

Estimated - how many hours did this take?
Marsh says: May 27, 2010. 7:35 AM
It's certainly a work of art, but we want to hear it!
Kornelie says: May 26, 2010. 10:07 PM
is it playable? what does it sound like?
Jenn Nelson says: May 26, 2010. 2:15 PM
This is totally amazing.  Great idea on how to spend my retirement.
underkill says: May 26, 2010. 1:08 PM
Awesome.  I think I'm going to use this method for a banjo pot.  Great stuff man.
Aaronius says: May 25, 2010. 8:31 AM
Awesome use of popsicle sticks! How does it hold up to play? Does the string tension affect the structural integrity?
