how did you get the sticks to stay together with such a small gluing surface area. I started gluing the flat top for my matchstick ukelele. I thought i wanted to do this and wanted to do something right there and then, but had no sticks, and didn't have enough time atm for a big project like this. However, i did have craft matchsticks, so i thought smaller sticks= smaller guitar... or a ukelele. I'm thinking i might cheat a bit and brace it with solid wood, because i don't think it will be strong enough. did you double layer? or just glue the sticks side by side and add structural bracing?

that's exactly as i did, but once removed from the foil it became very flimsy and some of the edge pieces borke of and there was a lot of flex down the middle, i had to re-glue down the cracks where it was weak, but hopefully it wont be too bad. I think i will have to add a lot of bracing to stop it collapsing. It doesn't help that some of the matchsticks aren't perfectfly square and some are completely lopsided.
