Shrink a 6 inch pen down to a 4 inch pen that easily clips to your notepad, book, sheet music, shirt pocket, pant pocket, and more! With this little portable pocket pen, you can express your creativity through designing the pen itself and writing gorgeous poetry. If you are on the go, just grab your pocket plane and clip it to your shirt collar! The simplicity of the portable pocket pen makes it easy to make in under a minute. Well, unless you take a long time to pick out your favorite color and pattern of duct tape. Follow these easy steps and you will have your pen in no time!

Materials:

Duct tape (Choose whatever color you like! You may even like to get creative and put stripes of different colors down your pen!)
Giant paperclip (On the package of paperclips it should say "giant". You could experiment with different sizes and colors of paperclips however.)
Pen
Needle-nose pliers (optional...just makes it easier to bend the clip!)

Step 1: Bend the Paperclip

Bend the paperclip. Find the outside end, and follow it to the bottom of the clip where the first bend is. Bend the curve straight with pliers or with your hands. Pliers just make it easier to bend the clip, but whatever you choose. :)

Step 2: Take Apart the Pen

It's not that hard, is it? If you want, let your kid do this step. Unscrew the pen at the middle and dump the parts out. Set aside all of the parts except for the ink cartridge with the pen tip on it.

Step 3: Duct Tape!

Now it's time to break out the duct tape. Find that perfect roll you have been saving! First, rip off a piece of duct tape about the length of the pen ink container. Stick the pen ink container to the duct tape, making sure the tip of the pen is NOT covered and is sticking out of the bottom. Next, stick the paperclip onto the tape as well, but hook it so that only the stick is stuck to the duct tape, and the actual clip is on the outside of the duct tape. You may need to look at the picture for this one. Roll the pen up in the tape, and stop and rip off the excess tape once it is fully covered. If there is extra that is about to cover the paperclip, just tuck the edge of the tape under the clip.

Step 4: You're Done!

Now wasn't that simple? Use your portable pocket pen on the go, in your notebook, or just hook it to your shirt pocket and head out the door! It is useful when you're at the grocery store and need to check something off your grocery list, but don't have a pen. Just unclip it from whatever you are wearing (or from your notepad) and check off the items you want!
