The humble Propane/LPG gas bottle not only looks great as a Lego dude, but can also can be brightened-up as an awesome Halloween prop.

Step 1: Paint your Gas Bottle

I started with a camp stove propane bottle that was already yellow from the factory, but it wasn't quite orange enough to be a pumpkin. I gave it a wipe with turpentine to remove any grease and dirt, and then sprayed it with orange paint.

To protect
the gas connections from being painted I used the spray can lid to cover them.

To create the face I sourced an off-cut of black adhesive vinyl from a local sign company for $4.

Hi everyone. My happy gas bottle eventually ran out of gas so I was finally able to answer the question "Can I refill my painted gas bottle?"

In Australia at least the answer is YES!

Here's Happy Gas Bottle being refilled at Ray's Outdoors in Adelaide, South Australia. It really made the day of the guy refilling it.

Cheers, Icedvovo

Does this affect tank returns?

If you are using a returnable tank, don't do this. You don't own the tank, therefore you might be responsible to any "damages" to the tank.

Only attempt this ible if you own your tank and possibly are not using it anymore. There are inspection stickers and other such that need to be visible to get them filled by a reputable person. At least that's the way down here in Louisiana.

I have to laugh we saw the one last week of the mini lego enlarged on a propane tank and my son thought of doing ones for halloween. We are doing them today, the pumkin and the skeleton heads. I have two tanks with bad valves and will use them for halloween.

I would like to know the exact orange you used, so I can use it for all my Halloween projects. I love that it was originally the color that people thought was too dangerous for LP tanks.
Also, it would be fun to use magnet sign material for the face, that way you can change it out with a new one each week.

Hi tjesse, "I would like to know the exact orange you used..."

I used the cheapest rattle can I could find at my local SuperCheap Auto, which is I think is pretty much like an Australian version of the US PepBoys.

And yes, the tank colour debate was slightly amusing knowing that I had a factory yellow tank in the shed waiting to be painted.

BTW: the magnet sign material is a great idea. I'll try and source some.
