Introduction: Properly Seared Steak
This is an instructable for how to perfectly sear a steak.
This is not about marinating or cooking it is not a recipe. This just the skill of searing. You will have to add your ingredients and cooking techniques to it.

Step 1: Steak to Room Temp
You should bring your steak to room temperature before you cook. This will help prevent burning the outside while waiting for the inside to cook.
Step 2: Preheat the Skillet
You will need an oven safe skillet. Cast iron skillets are great.
Step 3: Pay Dry
Pat dry the steak.
Step 4: Season the Steak
If you have not done a marinade or something, add a drizzle of olive oil and salt and pepper.
Step 5: Put Pan Over Medium-high Heat
Take the pan out of the oven and place it on the burner over medium high heat.
Step 6: Sear
Using tongs place the steak in the pan. Sear it for a minute or two. Until the sides start to brown.
Flip it over and repeat. Another minute.
Step 7: Sear the Edges
Hold each edge on the skillet until it is nicely browned on the edges.
Step 8: Bake
Put the skillet in the oven on 400 till desired doneness.
