Picture of QR Code Bad Jokes
Bad jokes have existed since the dawn of time, yet sadly these have not been updated for the 21st century.. UNTIL NOW! The QR code Bad Joke Project seeks to harass the public sphere by hiding bad jokes as an interesting and engaging poster.

Step 1: Obtain some bad jokes

Picture of Obtain some bad jokes
First to start this project I had to get some bad jokes. I took the short way out and used the Oatmeal's Dumb Jokes That Are Funny to find jokes i liked.

Other sources of bad jokes can be found at the following places:
- Dads
- Uncles
- First Dates
- Sporting Events
- Cocktail Parties

Where ever you get your jokes, make sure they are bad, in a good way.

Step 2: Make the Punchline into a QR code

Picture of Make the Punchline into a QR code
Find a text to QR code maker, i used http://qrcode.kaywa.com/.

Take your joke, for example:

What do you get when you cross a tyrannosaurus rex with fireworks?

DINO-MITE!

Into an awesome QR code as seen in the photo below.

Step 3: Combine the joke and new QR code punchline

Picture of Combine the joke and new QR code punchline
Using photoshop, or the gimp or whatever photo editor you use (paint?), create an 8 1/2 x 11 Image containing the QR code and the Joke.

Step 4: Post them around town

The last step is to post them around town, and wait for people to come across them, so they too can be harassed with the bad puns of the jokes. I'm sure that putting up QR codes like this can take different forms. Taking advantage to the new technology combined with the urge for users of this technology to find out what the codes say.

Post your own QR code jokes in the comments below and i hope you enjoyed this instructable!

Our local zoo uses QR codes to entice people into getting more info on displays. I'm thinking I could copy the format they use and put the jokes around the place. That could be fun, and just another reason to re-up our membership!
Here is my implementation. The zoo doesn't seem to have settled on a uniform format for these signs, so these may blend in well despite my poor image editing skills. I've printed them on 3x5 index cards and just need to find a non-destructive way to post them at various exhibits.

There are 24, and all the jokes are intended to match the animal they are displayed near. I'll probably never hear of anyone finding them, so I'll just have to be happy with the thought that I did it.

How do you read QR code?
most use a smartphone. but i think they make dedicated scanners. which are probably more expensive than a smartphone.

If you need a good QR code reader (and you happen to own a 4G iPod or an iPhone) get the app called "Scan" by QR Code City. It's simple yet effective.

i am thinking about doing this..............

I love this idea. It needed to be much easier. I created an online generator

Also available on github https://gist.github.com/1141590
so meta...

I've done something similar - I just had 'YOU JUST LOST THE GAME" in a QR code. I like this idea better, there's something to entice the person to scan...

Just a quick note for "jail and fine" safety
I don't believe in the US you can put a 'sign' on a mailbox, US property you know.
Also most localities AND home owners frown on putting them on telephone posts.
Would really hate to see anyone fined or jailed for an innocent joke, lol, course they way things are going now days, we'll probably have a contest for most fines placing bad jokes, lol.
And what ever you do don't put them on squad cars, lol, the drivers tend to have bad moods, lol.
Combines two of my favourite things!
i forgot the joke by the time i scanned it. hahah :D

If you're looking for the fastest QR reader on the iphone, I suggest I-Nigma. I've tried a couple and this is by far the quickest. It's ugly though... very much not optimised for the retina screen.

Hahaha, I am SO DOING THIS!
