Quick-Open Wrapping, or How I Learned to Love the Rip-Cord

Step 3 Done!

Now you have a wrapped present that is very easy to open. Let your recipient know it is there, or all your work is wasted!

Alternatives are, you can tape the ribbon to the box if you don't care if it gets torn, and you can leave the ribbon sticking out and use it as the pull-tab.

I wonder if you could attach a bow or name tag to the ribbon that sticks out. Then the recipient would just pull it to start the process. I'm looking forward to trying the rip cord for my gifts this year.

 That's a good idea! I was thinking just saying "PULL HERE" or something, but your idea's better.

 This is a great idea! I love it and definitely will use it this Christmas. Thanks for the great Instructable! Maybe you could do a similar thing but with a cracker, thus eliminating the pesky bangs and pops and cutting straight to the chase (or the thing inside, as the case may be). :)

Your idea looks so cool! Just like those cookies that have the rip-ribbon! (although I always forget to open the package from that side, ending up struggling to rip open the package lol) However, doesn't that steal away a bit of the always enthralling sentiment of delay?

 I think it replaces at LEAST as much novelty and interest as the amount of enthrallment it takes away!

I tried the same thing a couple of years ago, but I ran a couple of strips of tape parallel to the ribbon on either side to reinforce the paper.

Good thought, though just taping the start, or at least clipping the wrapping paper a smidge on either side of the ribbon, has been enough to do it. Try it again this year!
