Quidditch for Muggles

Who doesn't love the idea of zooming around in the air, catching and throwing quaffles, hitting bludgers toward the opposing team, and catching the Golden Snitch? Sadly, most of us here are muggles with no magical broomsticks or bewitched sports equipment. So I decided to come up with my own way to play the famous wizard's sport.

Step 1: What you'll need:

1 Quaffle: slightly deflated soccer ball
2 or 4 Bludgers: Dodge Balls
1 Snitch: A Golf ball.
6 Goals: PVC hoops attached to a wood or PVC pole works great.
The Quidditch Pitch: a football or soccer field, or make an actual Pitch.

7 players per team:
Keeper
Centre Chaser
2 Outside Chasers
Blind Side Beater
Open Side Beater
Seeker
Optional: matching uniforms and padding.

Having the Seeker and Snitch kind of makes all the other game play and players kind of pointless, doesn't it? (This is only a criticism of the game as originally created, not your Instructable, which is quite nice.)

not really because the other players allow the team to get more points than just the 150 points gained by catching the snitch. If the other players didn't exist, then in the fourth book, Bulgaria would have won the Quidditch World Cup rather than Ireland. The Ireland chasers got them 160 points so ultimately they won even though Krum got the snitch.

It seems so, but actually catching the snitch only ends gameplay, it doesn't necessarily determine who wins. Quidditch is almost always played as a series of games, and whoever has the most points at the end of all the games wins the tournament. But also Quidditch can last a very long time and the catching of the Snitch only gains you 150 points, so if you have been playing for days on end and your team is loosing, there is no guarantee that catching the Snitch would make you win especially if you are behind by more than 150 points. It usually determines the winner, but not always.

I've played this using a small R/C helicopter and a tennis ball for the Snitch.

Just have someone who's really good at flying the copter do so, and set a rule (like no flying up around 30 feet the whole time) to keep it fair.  I'm always picked to fly the snitch around as I'm just about the only one who has enough control to fly it.

This needs your own pictures, and some instruction on e.g. how to build the hoops. L

Yeah I was planning on making those into an instructable sometime...

use a small R/C ornithopter for the snitch. They are getting cheaper.

THAT is a cool idea...

This would work well on an Australian Rules football pitch (seeing as it's an oval...) nicely done :)
