This is my baby, the wooden arcade console "R-Kaid-6". Inspired by various retro game consoles, the R-Kaid-6 features a custom version of the Maximus Arcade front-end for emulators such as MAME, SNES, NES etc. It sports customized cables and two arcade joysticks that can be stored in the top of the base unit when not in use. Just plug it to your television and relive the old classics!

My old computer:

ASUS M2R-FVM
AMD Athlon 64
Geforce Winfast px7600 gt
DDR 512 mb
HDD 160 GB

I started on the main shell, using 16mm MDF and walnut / veneer. The design is based on a hex, so six sides were cut and glued together under pressure.

That comes right out of the Space Age (70's) :)
Everything was wood and looked futuristic, like the original Magnavox Odyssey and it's evil clone Wonder Wizard.

I wonder if it would be possible to put holes in the top surface, it so the game pads could be put on top upsidown. So It can double as a coffee table, or is that already the case?

Thank you Tek! Yeas, that´s already the case. The holes for the joysticks are there. And the pads do go upside down when not in use, making it sort of a side table =)

This is a thing of beauty. I love the wood vibe, and good detail on how it was done. Lignum-punk? Really very good. Love it.

It's awesome. You need to hook it up to an old cabinet tv, or install your monitor in the cabinet itself. Then the aesthetic of the console will match the aesthetic of the screen.

Outstanding!! I have been wanting to do a steampunk version of what you did here. This gives me some good ideas to implement on the parts I was having a design block. Thanks for the great project.

Can you give more information about your decorated stain painting technique?

There are some things that are just to awesome for words, and you have built just such a thing!

I've been trying to figure out how to make a MAME cabinet/console which would give as close a feel to the real thing as possible while not taking up too much space in the lounge room, and not looking out of place. This is perfect for that! I think I will be basing my next build on this.

Amazingly done, one of the best self made cases I've ever seen!

I was planning on making a MAME coffee table this summer but I might just have to try this instead. It looks great!
