Introduction: Raising Backyard Cickens!

About: I absolutly love airplanes and just about anything with an airfoil. I own 6 Chickens and love inventing and building stuff.

Chickens are very exiting pets! In this instructable, I will be giving tips on how to rase chickens.

Step 1: Ordering!

Chicks are about $1.25 to $2.00. Before you buy one from a store, make sure that they were'nt Shipped by airplane! If they were shipped by airplane, the chickens might be very scared, there eggs will not be as yummy and they will be smaller. Plus the compony might throw in a rooster because they have to many!

Step 2: Can Chickens Fly?

One of the many things that people think about chickens is that they can't fly! That is NOT true! Chickens are just very heavy for there wings, so they can fly, just not very high or far! BUT they will use this skill for use of all kinds of mischef!

Step 3: Curiosity!

Chickens are VERY curious! "hey look, someone left the gate open!" They will usually destroy plants that have big leafs! When they have there first molt when they are chicks they will most likely do somthing very wrong when they get bored....CANABILISUM! Yes they will actully try to eat the weakest, IF that does happen put a glass or CLEAR plastic barior between the chicks that are trying to eat the weak one so that they can see the weak one but can not get to it...Do this for a day and repeat if it happens again!

Step 4: Ancestry

All birds actully are real Dinosaurs! No Joke! The Chicken, I read is from the T-Rex...I am not sure that it is right but Oh well... The BlueJay is a Valosorapter! Saphira (In Picture 1) Is REALLY eating a mouse...up intill then, I just thought chickens ate seeds and bugs!

Step 5: Food!

When you first get your baby Chickens make sure there brooder (A box with a RED* heat lamp, food, and water) Is ready for the chickens. The type of food that they need is starter feed, (duh!) And when they get bigger give them starter feed made as pellets (they won't like the pellets but they will get used to it!).

*Normal heat lamps stress them out.

Step 6: Treats!

For treats...you can give them ANYTHING* you want exept lettis!

*Withen reason.

Step 7: Eggs!

Chicken eggs are VERY tasty! The first egg will have a thin shell and might break. This is normel for the chickens and there second egg will most likely have a harder shell! I figured out that you can put an egg in a micorwave for 2 min on midiam and have a lid on it that the egg will be cooked perfectly! But DON'T COOK A EGG IN IT'S SHELL IT WILL EXPLODE!!!!!

Step 8: Conclusion

Chickens are verey smart and happy animals, If you treat them with care and respect they make GREAT pets!
