Very nice instructable. Your idea is brilliant of using capacitors and stepper motor.Thanks.

can we use a charging circuit to charge some rechargable AAA batteries and use them in place of capacitors . They can turn the lights on for a long time.

IF WE CAN THEN PLEASE POST THE CIRCUIT THAT CAN BE USED......

Rechargeable AAA batteries, depending on the type, will need a complex charger to prevent overcharging and it has to be at a certain voltage.

Those circuits are very complex, its not easy.

Nice and 2 thumbs up!

Ummm.... I have an off topic question. Could this be used as a hand cranked stun gun? Seems to have enough capacitors wired correctly, just remove the lights and replace with two electrodes? Home made self defence tool for cheap?

No.. it couldn't be used like a Standard stun gun. Stun guns have inductors as well as capacitors, which creates a sort of "tank circuit" when combined with the internal circuit and use two contacts to short it out across target.. However, removing the LEDs and placing two contacts out the front could be used to deliver a discharge of the caps. Don't know if you have ever picked up a charged cap before, but it hurts when it discharges across you. I will see what I can come up with for a Make-Your-Own stun gun.

LOL.. You gave me this image of a victim chasing after their attacker while frantically cranking away at their stun gun. No way are these salvaged capacitors rate for the voltage rating that would have anyone fell the discharge.

I have heard that before actually, but what most do not realize is that it is the amperage that really counts. 1000uf by itself is not much, but he has around 40 in this setup. Make it 100, and suddenly you have a respectable zap. Hand cranking should only be considered if you are in BFE and have no batteries. Like a soldier in the field, or a camper. Not ideal but perhaps a nifty fallback.

the way it's set up now, no. stun guns have at least 5000 volts. but if u charged them in parallel and discharged in series, that might work, but im not sure that would be safe.

Very nice! I would rather do it your way then buy a kit. Looks like more fun. Thank you :)

Brilliant. I like the fact that you've made it completely from trash and especially that you've made your own box.
