Step 1Vegan Chickn Strips

Vegan Chickn Strips
You will need a small baking dish, preferably corningware.....

Here is a list of the ingredients:

1/4 cup vital wheat gluten
1 Tbsp soy flour
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp shortening
1/4 cup (scant) water
1 to 2 Tbsp Barbecue Sauce

Mix the dry ingredients in a soup-size bowl with a pastry blender...
Cut in the shortening until well mixed....it should look coarse, but evenly mixed
Add water and knead by hand until well mixed...(2-3 minutes) It should look a bit like flubber
Set aside for about 5 minutes
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Put a generous glob of barbecue sauce in the bottom of the baking dish.  Press the slab of dough into it ...moosh it around some, and turn it over...moosh it around some more and press it down  so it looks like a fat tortilla.

Cover dish and place on center rack of oven.... Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes
Remove from oven, and let cool slightly.
Cut into thin chi-chi chicken strips with kitchen shears, or a sharp knife
Use as a filling for wraps, or sandwiches  with your favorite condiments.
Served as soft tacos with home made tortillas and cheese, etc;, maybe salsa...it makes 4 good-sized soft tacos...maybe 5.

NOTE:  If you are just trying out vegetarianism for a first time....be sure and find an alternative source of B vitamins....in case you do not know.....
