However, it seems as if no one I know has ever had what I call "an elephant sandwich" (I have no idea where the name originated).
If you like Reese's peanut butter cups, chances are that you will soon learn how to make your all-time-favorite sandwich.
Step 1: Get Your Ingredients
The only ingredient where the type really matters is the peanut butter. I recommend creamy, since the effect is so much better. Other than that, all you need is bread, butter and chocolate chips.
If you look at the second picture below, you will notice the amount of each that you need:
- Two slices of bread
- 1/2" from the stick of butter
- 20 normal chocolate chips (or 40 mini chocolate chips)
- Enough peanut butter to spread an even amount on each slice
Step 2: Turn on Your Stove
Turn the burner on medium after placing your skillet/ frying pan on it. Place the butter on the skillet.
When the butter starts melting, you know that the pan is almost hot enough to start your sandwich.
Step 3: Make the Sandwich
Spread the peanut butter on both slices (one side of each). Let me repeat: both slices.
Put the chocolate chips on the bread in four rows of five (if you have mini chocolate chips, just double up the chocolate chips).
Obviously, just close the sandwich when you're done.
Step 4: Spread the Melted Butter, Start the Sandwich
Place the sandwich on the skillet (and put everything away).
Step 5: Grill the Sandwich
Regularly check to make sure the sandwich is grilling properly.
Once a golden brown, the side is done and you can flip the sandwich.
When you flip the sandwich, make sure you adequately coat the fresh side with butter (so it doesn't burn).
Keep checking, again, and make sure it is the same golden brown. When it is, you're done.
Step 6: Finish and Serve
*Make sure to be careful with the skillet, as it will be hot for some time after you turn off the burner. Some stoves have a feature that tells you when the top has cooled down.*
