Refill Disposable Propane Tank from a Standard BBQ Cylinder

Step 5Warm 20 pounds Cylinder

Warm 20 pounds Cylinder
Put your BBQ cylinder in warm water (not hot) for about 1/2 hour. This operation increase the pressure in the giver tank. If your bottle is under the sun a warm and sunny day, just skip this step, you don't need to do that.

The stuff is a liquid. That's why the source tank is upside down. Just putting the tank to be refilled in ice water is more than enough to quickly overfill it (in seconds, not days like someone mentioned). Heat is overkill. I once ran a burning propane torch under the hot water tap to get a bigger flame. Bad idea. The safety valve let go and I had a 4 foot flame (no it wasn't refilled). I tried to point it in a safe direction and walked towards the door which someone kindly opened. Tossed it in the snow. Even a 5 pound tank fills quickly when sitting in ice water. Where I live, tanks are exchanged (like beer), rather than filled and they don't have 5 pounders.
