Step 4 Prepare To Fill

Stick the bit of wire (or other spacer you selected earlier) into the opening (not far - only half an inch or so), then insert the funnel. This prevents the funnel from forming a tight seal at the opening and allows the air to escape via the little gap.

This is good because the air has to go somewhere - and if it has no other exit, it will bubble up into the funnel, foaming our solution and making another big mess.
