In this Instructable I am going to show you how to make a cute napkin ring for your Christmas table :)

Lately I've been making a lot of crocheted Christmas decorations for my Etsy shop. One of my favorite ones was a reindeer I made with a little pocket on its back.
In the meantime, I was thinking about making some napkin rings for Christmas, and this morning I finally had the idea of making a napkin ring with the reindeer's face on it, just a little bigger than the one I already made.
So here it is!

You just need to know a few basic crochet stitches to make this project and sew the pieces together.

You can follow this Instructable to make as many napkin rings as you want!
I am going to make more with different designs in the next days so I will update this Instructable with the new ones soon. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this one and if you do, I would really appreacite your vote :)

Step 1: What You Need

Beige, brown, red cotton - I used n° 3 and n° 5
crochet hook - what works best with your cotton, I used a n° 4 - 1.75
2 black beads
thread and needle

List of stitches:

chain stitch
slip stitch
single crochet - sc

Step 2: The Ring - Part 1

The base of your napkin ring is the ring, of course!
So let's start making one...

Using beige cotton chain 5.
Make 4 sc in each chain starting from the second one from hook.
This is the first row. You will need 40 rows.
So, chain 1 and turn.
Keep making 4 sc in each stitch of the previous row.

Continue this way until you have 40 rows.
I know they seem so many, but I promise it won't take too long! :)

You can adjust the number of rows depending on how big you want your ring to be.
More rows - bigger ring. Less rows - smaller ring.

Step 3: The Ring - Part 2

Now you have your strip and need to join the 2 ends together to form a ring.

To do this, fold the strip and join the ends together making 4 slip stitches.
Secure, cut the thread and try to hide it between the stitches.

Turn your ring upside down so that the inside part will be outside and vice versa.
This way you can hide the part that you have just joined.

The ring is done!
Put it aside for a while now, you will need it later.

Step 4: Make a Circle - Part 1

For the reindeer's face you will need 3 circles.
I am going to show you how to make the biggest one in beige now. I will divide it in rounds.

Rounds:

1. Chain 2 and join the ends together with a slip stitch to create a ring.
2. Make 7 sc all around the ring and slip stitch in the first sc.
3. Chain 1 and make 2 sc in each stitch of the previous round. You will have a total of 14 stitches.
Slip stitch in the first sc.
4. Chain 1 and make:
*1 sc in the next stitch
2 sc in the next stitch*
Repeat from * to * 7 times for a total of 21 stitches.
Slip stitch in the first sc.

Step 5: Make a Circle - Part 2

(I will continue with the rounds...)

5. Chain 1 and make:
*2 sc in each of the next 2 stitches
2 sc in the next stitch*
Repeat from * to * 7 times for a total of 28 stitches.
Slip stitch in the first sc.

6. Chain 1 and make:
*3 sc in each of the next 3 stitches
2 sc in the next stitch*
Repeat from * to * 7 times for a total of 35 stitches.
Slip stitch in the first sc.

Secure, cut the thread and hide it between stitches.

The biggest circle is done!

Step 6: The Other Circles...

You have to make 2 smaller circles now.
You simply have to follow the pattern of the biggest one.

For the first one:
use the beige cotton and make rounds 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

For the second one:
use the red cotton and make rounds 1, 2 and 3.

Step 7: The Antlers - Part 1

For the reindeer's antlers use brown cotton and chain 10.
Now starting from the second chain from hook, make 3 sc in each of the next 3 chains.
Chain 5.
Make 4 sc in each chain. Always remember to leave the first chain free, so start from the second one.
Finally, make 3 sc in the next free chain of the base.
Chain 6.

Step 8: The Antlers - Part 2

Starting from the second chain from hook, make 5 sc in each chain.
Go back to the base making 3 sc in each chain.

This way you will reach the end.
Secure and cut the thread.

You have one of the two antlers now!
Make another identical one.

Step 9: Sew the Pieces Together

Now that you have all your pieces ready, you have to compose the reindeer sewing the parts together!

First of all sew the red circle (nose) in the middle of the small beige circle using red thread.
Sew this new piece on the biggest circle. Don't place it on the centre this time, sew it on a side.
Look at the pictures to understand where the pieces should be placed.

Finally, sew the antlers at the top of the big circle. Try to keep the tip of the antlers behind the circle.

Step 10: The Eyes

No, I didn't forget about the eyes! :D

Take your 2 black beads and sew them on the reindeer's face using black thread and needle.

The reindeer is done and ready to be sewn on the ring!

Step 11: Sew the Ring and Reindeer Together

Place the ring you made previously on the back of the reindeer and sew the pieces together.

Tadaaa! Your napkin ring is ready to be used on Christmas day! :)
