Introduction: Repair Broken Key Fob

I am a little bit hard on my key fob. I seem to have to replace it every couple of years. They always break in the same place. The key fob still works it just will not stay on the key chain. I did not want to spend any money on replacing the key fob, even though the prices have dramatically come down.

I was thinking about how to repair it...
  • JB Weld, NO!
  • Print a case for it like a cell phone case, NO! I do not have a 3d printer!
  • Then just like a light bulb bursting to life it came to me, to wire wrap it like I have seen some jewelry.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Material
  • I already had a new roll of safety wire that I had purchased for another project.

Tools (used)
  • Needle nose plyers
  • Forseps (used only one of them

Step 2: Time to Start Wrapping

I remove the rest of the broken part off and sanded part of it down.

After several false starts, I finally found a pattern that I thought was best all around for use and retention. Follow my notes on each photo.

Step 3: All Finished

When the battery fails I will have to redo the repair. Maybe I can make it look better or break down and purchase another case.
