Hello everyone, In this instructable we are going to learn how to reset forgotten Windows 7 password.

Step 1: What If You Have Forgotten Your Windows 7 Password?

If you have lost your windows 7 password and haven't created any password recovery disk simply shut down your PC.

Step 2: Get the Softwares.

Now on any other PC download Yumi multiboot and Ubuntu.

  • Get Yumi multiboot here.
  • I am using Ubuntu 13.04 but you can get the latest version here.

Step 3: Create Bootable Flash Drive.

Start YUMI and select the USB drive that you want to make bootable.

Then, Select the type of OS as Ubuntu. Finally, Select the location of .iso file. Once done, Remove the flash drive and insert it to the PC whose password you want to recover.

Step 4: Run Ubuntu Live From Flash Drive.

Start Ubuntu from boot menu.

When you see the Ubuntu welcome wizard select Try Ubuntu / Ubuntu live for new version of Ubuntu.

Once ubuntu starts, start Files then navigate to Windows installation partition > Windows > System32.

Then, find a file named Utilman.exe and rename it to cmd2.exe

Then, find cmd.exe and rename it to Utilman.exe

Finally shut down ubuntu. And start windows.

Step 5:

When windows starts.

Click on Ease of access button at the corner. Instead of Ease of access menu cmd starts.

Then type:

net user Anshu NewPasswordHere

At the place of "Anshu" add your user name and in place of "NewPasswordHere" add your new password. Then, exit cmd and you would be able to log on to Windows using your new password.

This process works only on Windows 7 / XP / Vista.

Worked perfectly on Windows 10. But, I would add then you need to boot into Ubuntu again to rename the files back to their original names.

For me many of the constructions are very, very interesting. Keep going all of you.
